5 BALL ARSENAL
« on: December 13, 2008, 03:16:07 AM »
I'm looking to build a five ball.My pap is 4 1/2 over and 1/4 up with 15mph ball speed and about 250 revs. like playing anywhere from 5 in to about 20 and im more up the back of the ball with my hand.and i see all kinds of oil conditions from bone dry to Med-Heavy not a lot of oil around here. So what do u think of this.
1.Roto-Grip Cell=pin down
2.Grand Illusion or Rapid fire=pin up
3.Twisted fury pearl=pin down
4.Avalanche Slide=pin up
5.spare ball of course
So what drill layouts do u guys suggest for these balls or ball that i should replace them with this is just my best idea on what would help me cover everything.

Looks good to me.
You track fairly low so don't go too weak with the Slide. Mine's drilled pretty strong and it still glides down the lane easily. If you've already drilled it pin up, you may need to knock some of the gloss off of it for best results.

1- Roto-Grip Cell is a great choice. You may also consider Brunswick Maxxx Zone. To my eyes, it is a bit more continues with a proper surface preparation. You can't go wrong with any of them.

For heavier, but typical house conditions, I'd go 3-1/2 to 4 inches from PAP with keeping enough statics for fine tuning with an x-hole. I would prefer higher pin.
For more demanding shots, based on your specs you've provided, I'd go 4-1/2 to 5 inches range and pin below to close my angles with a strong x-hole down VAL.

If it is Cell you are drilling, for your style, I'd go 45 to 55 degrees MB in both cases

2- I can't speak of Grand Illusion, but Rapid Fire is an excellent choice. My humble advice regarding drilling would be same as above.. (I'm using polished Ultimate Inferno instead )

3- Well, Twisted Fury Pearl is darn versatile! I've experimented 4 drillings with couple of surfaces. Drill it 6 inches from PAP with 70 degrees MB with a polish, it's gonna "slide" forever. Drill it strong with some surface, you don't need to punch holes in your Rapid Fire

Seriously, I'd go pin below, 4 to 4-1/2 inches from PAP with 45 degrees MB. And ofcourse, adjust the surface..

4- No experience with Slide. I haven't drilled mine yet..

Hope this helps,
