797 with Rattler
« on: March 13, 2009, 03:27:06 PM »
Tonight, I started off double, stone 10, 17 in a row, stone 10, punch in tenth for a 279, 279 start.  I ahd such a good look that I really started to think 800.  Unfortunately, I left another solid 10 and a solid 9 the last game and ended up with 239 for a 797.

My Rattler, I took the factory shine off the ball with a fresh 1000 abralon, went to 2000, and then applied a very light application of Rough Buff.  I liked the reaction I got out of the box, but wanted to take some of the flippiness off the backend.  Now, the ball is about 2-3 feet sooner and just different enough on the backend to tell a difference.  It covers the same amount of boards, but the look is a little earlier and softer.  It helps blend in the burned up track with the tightness in the middle of the lane.  I slow hooked the ball playing around 23 at the arrows out to 10-12 at the breakpoint and was mighty impressed with the reaction I got all night.

Don't be afraid to make surface adjustments with this ball.  Drill it strong and go duller with the cover to get an Inferno type roll or go with the 4000 with High Gloss to get a real skid/flip monster for true medium conditions.

I took my down with a fesh 500 pad and polished it. It really smoothed out the reaction, the ball is a beast I am really impressed with it.

my first 6 games with the rattler are 278-279-195(oops)=752
following week 300-239-267=806. this ball rolls pretty good, and off hits
scatters pins nicely. so far mine is still in out of box condition. i'll tinker
around with cover when i bowl a tournament to fit it for a non ths pattern.
by the way layout is pin above bridge cg 1/2poz. no weight hole.(4 1/2" pin to pap).

Great shooting Steve. It sounds like you've found the right surface.
