I'm not usually seen outside of the Visionary/Lane 1/AZO forums, but this little gem caught my eye so I had to pick one up.
My Bruiser is 16lbs, has a pin out of 4", and is drilled 4x3 at 45 degrees. I also took the cover down to 800 grit, because I wanted this ball to handle carrydown better than most of my other equipment does.
Now about the lanes, newly resurfaced wood, second shift lighter medium crown pattern. This pattern usually blows up into a tube depending on how many crankers/power players are on the pair. Although with the resurface, the backends were flying so it was possible to play a bigger swing area than before.
To start the evening, I played with my slide foot on 30, standing on the dots using the second arrow as my break point. First off, this ball without shine can cover a decent amount of boards, it's no slouch by any means. It was actually too strong for the condition, but I was stubborn and made the ball work for me. After the three game set, I only had to adjust three boards left with my feet, and I adjusted two boards left with my target. The Bruiser allowed me to stay where I wanted to longer than alot of other euipment I've used before.
This is my first run in with PK18, and let me tell you folks, I love the cover! I don't know if it's predominently coverstock here, or just the ball in general, but it's super versatile. I could play tighter lines deep, or cover some area if I wanted to with the same success. This Monster is very receptive to hand release adjustments, and is very forgiving of mistakes as well. If I threw it too far out, it will make it back light enough to scatter the pins, but if I pulled it in the ball would over hook, just a little too strong for that mistake. I could play with a high track and low track release with the same results, and actually I pretty much received the same reaction from both releases.
The Bruiser itself on the lanes makes it easily down the first 30 feet of lane without problems. We had decent amount of head oil, but the ball didn't squirt up either coming out of it as well. It revs up early because of my lay out, right after the 30 foot mark it was ready to turn over, then starts to roll. Even in the dull state it has a pretty decent punch, but I'd consider the reaction shape to be like a strong arcing crescent. This is a very good hitting and carrying ball, I didn't leave alot of tens or wierd leaves, so it must have matched up well all around.
This is a superb ball all around and I still can't get over how versatile it is, but it's not picking up notice too much in my area. I've only seen a handful of them thrown, but they don't come close to how this one looks/reacts. I am thoroughly pleased with the fact that it is a cheaper ball as well, even tough I paid $35 for mine used, I can get a new one for a terrific price. Like someone else said, thank you Brunswick for re-releasing the Quantums.
