After the last Monsters will be gone...
« on: February 10, 2005, 05:45:51 PM »
Any ideas what to expect from Brunswick when the last 2 Monster balls (Bruiser & SlayR) will be taken out of the assortment? I heard that these two will be discontinued this year.

A PK 18 pearl ball with medium/low RG core would be nice (something like the Fuze Igniter or Blazing Inferno), plus a new dry lane ball. Additionally, a mid-range particle ball (maybe a low-load particle pearl with med. RG?) would be nice, too.

Any rumors, ideas or suggestions?

i'd like to see a ball with a pancake weightblock and a mild reactive coverstock for drier lane conditions.

Yes, I think Brunswick should have more in store than the Punisher and the soon-to-be-gone Slay/R. Maybe somthing like the old Red/Black or Green/Black Monster, that fits between the Slay/R, the Punisher and the polished Power Grooves.

I'd also appreciate something with control and a smooth hook on medium conditions, something like the Eliminator with a higher RG core or the Particle Power Groove Black Sparkle with a "real" core for a stronger roll.

And I think that something like the Blazing Inferno or Fuze Igniter in the mid-price range is missing. There is only the II, and it is too expensive to be an addition to an assortment.

Monsters ARE some of the greatest bowling values to be found.

I'd love to see Activator make it into Brunswick's mid-priced line. Activator is a real midlane-oriented coverstock, and I would like to see it over a simple lightbulb; or over Quantum would be really interesting as well.

Personally,
I'd love to see the original Activator over the SlayR/Bruiser core. What an incredibly strong control ball that would be!

The Impulse Zone fits the bill for the specs mentioned as a low-load particle.

Wouldn't be able to sell that ball in the Monster/BVP price range. It would be up there with the Zones.

I heard from a local pro shop that one of their distributors is already blowing out the Bruiser, SlayR, Time Zone, Warp Zone, and Raging Inferno.  I don't know whether this has to do with excess inventory or with impending discontinuation.

I know this is a monster thread, but I'd love to see that ball. A few more bucks won't make a huge difference, to me anyway.

Hey, Nick, what's they do? Let you into the accounting section??

Noooo... its common sense.

Putting Activator Coverstock on something in the lower end would cheapen the image of the elite coverstock that it has been made ou tto be.

They did let it seep down into the Zone series. They could let it trickle a little further. Besides in a year or so, it will be the PK 18 replacement, I'd bet.

Meanwhile I'd better get one of those Bruisers before they disappear completely.

I don't think they would completly get rid of either of the PK's. Just start using them less. Not for sure how similar the overseas PK's are maybe we could start to see some of those used over here.

I think PK 18m as well as PK 17, will last on. Maybe the Power Grooves get a stronger coverstock for more oil, but the PK 18 has, with aggressive and particle variations on the Fuze balls, been around for a while and it is still a versatile option. Why getting rid of it? Yes, and there are the overseas PK versions for dry and oily conditions.

I agree that Activator will not trickle into the BVP series. It is 1st generation state-of-the-art stuff and will stay on the high performance ball for at least 1 ball generation, currently not lower than the Zone balls.

As far as I know both Monsters will be discontinued this year, as well as the original Inferno and the Raging Inferno. From both Time and Wrp Zone I haven't heard anything, but replacing the Time Zone with a polished PK 18 BVP ball (pearl or solid) would make sense, and the Warp Zone is rendered obsolete by the cheaper Goliath.

What about a power groove with the nemisis or punisher cover, think you might have an awesome dry lane ball...

Uh, the nemesis has a solid pk18......NOT good for dry lanes.  I think the slayrs coverstock (Powerkoil LS) would be better.
