Alright, so I need to rework my arsenal.
« on: July 13, 2005, 10:52:49 AM »
Well, I figure I need to get a finalized arsenal I'll have for the upcoming season.  HEre's what I have:

Target zone
Power Groove pearl (reacts weak enough for drier conditions)
Monster Screamr (pin in ring)
Monster Bruiser (pin about half inch above grip center, polished)
PBA inferno (hasn't been redrilled)
Speed Zone (pin an inch right of ring)
Ultimate Inferno (pin 1.5" above ring, .5" right with a weighthole)
16lb Fuze Eliminator (not redrilled)
NIB Red pin zone classic on the way

I think that's it.  Anyways, I want to condense my arsenal.  League arsenal, and for tourneys.  I've already assumed there will be overlap between the screamr and red pin ZC, so I figure I'll be selling that.  I'll probably sell the Speed zone too, since I don't need to many medium-heavy balls.  The balls I want to definitely have in my arsenal anyways are the PG, red pin ZC, the bruiser, and the Inferno/Fuze because I haven't redrilled those yet.  I want to keep the Ultimate, because it's already been double plugged and I'll get nothing for it if I sell it.  I was thinking the following...

Spares/dry: Target Zone
Lighter:  Power groove
Medium/light: Red pin zone classic
Medium "snap":  Inferno
Medium arc/some carrydown:  Bruiser

My bruiser rolls early for medium conditions, so I wanted the inferno to provide a better snap look, I guess to open up the lanes or something like that.  Now, I don't know if the Ultimate would go above or the fuze due to the very long drill pattern so that's where I need help.  You think there will be too much overlap between the early rolling bruiser, the ultimate and the fuze?  Or would I be able to get different enough reactions from them?  And also, how do you think I should drill the Red-pin and Inferno, to fit them in the spots I want?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Andy,

I won't offer advise on your equipment, but just a little insight into my own:

Zone Classic - Green pin - Polished
Smokin Inferno - Out of the box
Strike Zone - Sanded with a green scotch brite pad.
These three I use on varying amounts of oil when I feel that I need to open up the lane, specifically the back ends. They provide nice angularity and aggressive moves at the backend.

Absolute Inferno -  I use this when I feel that I have sufficient lane help to make the corners, but want something moderately aggressive for the corners and or just a bit of midlane control. Great for league conditions.  Since most centers have a 10 to 10 wall, there is no need for additional angularity, as the lane provides enough.

Punisher -  I use this when the lanes are a bit drier and flatter, and I need some help getting angle at the breakpoint to open up the shot.  This is the next step down from ZC.

Goliath - I use this when I have very heavy oil up front with crisp backends.

I don't so much rank my equipment by hook as I do by how much help I need at the breakpoint for creating area.  Once I determine how much angularity I need to open up the lane, then I judge how much coverstock I need to control the heads and mid-lane.

My day to day:

Super Carbide Bomb
Werewolf
Absolute
Red pin
XXXL

I have more, but those are the five I would take to tourneys.

For you:

Ultimate
Bruiser
Inferno
Red Pin
PG
Target zone

Andrew

PS I'll be sending you a PM...
