Straight from the Press this week

Has anyone else looked at the SFTP section of BrunswickInsiders.com for this week's tournament yet? Looks like they're drilling up alot of HIGH pin balls, following the trend of Patrick Allen and Tommy Jones winning with balls 2-3 inches above the fingers.

Can anyone explain this? I know the PBA typically sees drier fronts and mids than most, but I can't imagine why a pin 5 inches above your midline wouldn't just tip and roll out instantly. I recall having a ball with the pin just an inch above my fingers and it was so hook-set and violent off the dry it was just useless, even when the heads were semi burnt.

You have to take in account that what those guys want a ball to do is completely diffrent then want normal league bowlers want or need.  They are looking for stuff that is very condition specific at times.  I dont think they are drilling a lot of stuff pin high just because PA and Tommy won but because right now that is what they need when the lanes start transitioning.

drilling patterns with the pin above the fingers results in a skid-flip reaction. this type of ball reaction can be very sensitive to the lane condition. most players would be better off avoiding this type of drilling pattern. placing the pin in the ring finger area will result in plenty of track flare but with a much more even ball reaction.
