What was I thinking this whole time?
« on: February 05, 2011, 10:39:29 AM »
Well after hearing all the hoopla and having a few new and used big b balls come through my hands.. I decided to go ahead and punch up an alpha max and a loaded revolver..I talked so much shit about brunswick the whole time but it was just too much hype.. so I said what the hell.. Loaded revolver drilled with long pin up above middle ringer to ensure a tamer ball up front with lots of energy on the end of the pattern. Alpha max drilled pin up and kicked right of the middle finger.. cg stacked.. no weight hole with either. I tried vacu grips this time around as I have lately developed blisters on my fingers.. thumb was just fine.. but took lateral out of the thumb to correct some comfort issues there as well. The shot was fresh.. I decided to see just how tame the loaded revolver was... I got exactly what I asked for with this ball.. a ball that gets through the front with ease.. but has moxy left on the back end... Anywhere near the pocket carried.. the carry was amazing but how smooth the ball was as it seemed to just glide to the pocket took the cake...  I looked at a buddy of mine and said, "Wow.. this brunswick shit actually hits" he concurred after making some choice remarks about the c-system balls. Well it was time to put the loaded revolver away after shooting 223 with no practice shots. I went straight to the alpha max and jumped 3 boards inside.. and two at the break! Ran off 299 out of the box.. I have never.. and I mean never... seen a ball hit this hard... I mean the pins were low.. and the ball just seemed to love to be given room.. as I was actually able to read the transition with this ball without it leaving me the big 4 or something odd as it usually does with my more angular pieces! All I can say is... I take back what I said about Big B... very nice job on the alpha and loaded revolver.. now im looking for a sling shot to go with my Taboo, alpha max, loaded revolver, infection and ice storm.. then I will be ready to burst back onto the tournament scene!

That is great to hear. As you have seen, with a chance Brunswick WILL look good and give you a different motion than the Brunswick of the past. The new balls are looking great and getting alot of good feed back. I just threw my Alpha and Loaded for the first time tonight as I am returning from an injury this week.

I am really impressed with how clean the Alpha is with as much as it hooks. The Loadedis no slouch either. I hope to post a review by next week but need to get some more games on these and do some comparisons.

As I tell other guys during league and tournaments.......if you're not throwing Brunswick you don't know what you're missing.

I've loved the stuff for some time. The Wicked Siege has been a great addition to my current lineup and I'm glad to see them use that cover on the new Revolver.

Absolutely concur... I've thrown a lot of Brunswick equipment... The new stuff is just awesome... You should check out a Wicked Siege, it's a great complement to the Alpha Max. Very clean through the front and a huge move on the backend. Looks something like a Hot Sauce Pearl... stronger than the Reign.

Hey tizzle,

with the pin location where it is on your Alpha Max, what's the actual layout specs?

It's a modified 5 x 3 layout

I used my alpha-max yesterday at a tournament for the 1st time, and I have to say WOW what another great ball!  The alpha-max has a strong backend reaction with a clean motion through the front part of the lane.  It was a 10 game tournament and in game 6, I was playing over 5th arrow out to about 10 and the ball still made a strong move which I left 5 9 pins on a modified house shot with heavier oil.  Mine is drilled 70 Deg x 5" x 40 Deg with the pin above my fingers.  It will definitely be in my bag for tournaments.  Also, you can't go wrong with the $50 rebate on the alpha-max and the $25 rebate on the Loaded Revolver.

I recently purchased an Anaconda for my pearl benchmark.  This ball is incredibly smooth off the spot and GREAT for true mediums.  I threw Brunswick a bit back a few years ago (last ball being the time zone) and am just now coming back around to them.  I'm glad I gave the Anaconda a chance.

Brandon, that was definitely not a modified house shot. It was near impossible to get a consistent ball reaction, and don't get me started on the "pin carry", which means you split on every shot your threw. I go high or light, I split 90% of the time. I hit pocket, I split 25% of the time. Lesiure Lanes sucked, and I have no idea how anyone went plus 100 or more in that garbage place.  You were either tripping the most ridiculous $hit I have ever seen, or you were splitting 4 or more times a game and only missing the pocket once.
