Title: Another Ball
Post by: Easy10pins on January 24, 2005, 03:40:39 AM
So my wife wants to buy me a new ball.  I already have a Goliath, TimeZone, Monster Bruiser and Monster Slay-R.  Any recommendations?  I was thinking Impulse Zone or Intense Inferno.  Or should I wait for the Absolute Inferno?

Inquiring minds want to know.

What do you need?
Have you mapped out what you now have, how it's drilled, what kind of surface?
Because then you can figure out what ball would fill a hole, instead of just adding duplication.

Bomb300,

The first impression I get is that you might need to fill the hole between the goliath and the time zone.  Any of the balls you mentioned would fit into this niche, it would just depend on what reaction you are looking for.

If you want a bit more skid/snap ( like the time zone ), then the intense might be what you want.  If you want more of a roll/arc ( like the goliath ), then the impulse or the absolute would fit better.

The impulse is activator with a light load particle, the intense is activator plus with a higher rg, and I've been told that the new absolute is activator plus with a lower rg core( original inferno I think ) and a ruff buff finish.

You might want to consider the classic zone also. Activator cover with an assymetrical core similar to the impulse zone.

Goliath - Med/heavy
Time Zone - Wet/dry
Bruiser - med carry down
SlayR - dry/spare

I absolutely love the strong arc of the Goliath and it seems to fit my game better.  So another ball like that to fit between the Goliath and TimeZone would be perfect.

I also prefer a ball with a low RG.

As for how my other equipment is drilled, I do not know how to properly word how it is drilled so I will take a few pics and perhaps someone can explain to me like a 3rd grader.

BTW, what are the pros/cons of a high RG and low RG ball?

Also, my wife supports my hobby.  As long as I let her buy Louis Vuitton, I can buy bowling ball any time I want.

The vid is me throwing the Goliath.  I want a reaction similar with a bit more length so I can play down and in (when necessary).

So perhaps a Classic Zone drilled silimar to my Goliath and TimeZone, (give or take).

SH*T, I wish I could better explain how I have my equipment drilled.  I still have a lot to learn..

Hopefully, someone can explain how they are drilled.  Although I have been bowling a while, I still need to learn about how my equipment is set up.

And yes, I know they need to be cleaned up a bit.

well you arsenal looks pretty good. but you do have at least one more spot to fill i would say either the classic or impulse would be a good fit i have both and their great. as far as your balls. the goliath is drilled to roll good drill for the midlane bruiser is close to a skid snap but since the pin and cg are a little out is between skid snap and a little mid lane roll. the slayr is good for drier lane but still flips ok with the little bit of positive and the time zone is drill basically to flip when it comes out into the dry. i could be more specific but this is just my basic analysis. hope its helps you.

You can be specific as you want.    Thanks for the quick an dirty regarding my equipment.  I think I will pick up the Zone Classic.  Any recommedation on how I should drill it?

What are your thoughts on the Absolute Inferno?

well if you are willing to buy the classic and the Absolute it will be well worth. Ive been waiting for the absolute for over a month. i just wont need a diaper like Nick lol. just messing with ya Nick but if you can wait the Absolute is awesome, prob will be the ball of the year. if your get the classic i would recommend having pin above the fingers kicked out the about 2 to 3 inches depending how strong you want it and with the psa right of the thumb 2 inches in that area. ball will be very versatile. probably wil cover all medium comditions with it. i can use mine on anything except extreme dry or flood. hope this info will give you great future bowling with any brunswick you obtain.

Does the PSA = the CG?

Some of the acronyms I am not familiar with.

I'm going to chat with the pro shop guy this weekend so I can get a few lessons on how pin placement in relation to the CG affects the ball.  Once I get a good visual of it, I can tell him exactly how I want my equipment drilled to get the reaction I want.

Mahalo (Thanks)

BTW, how would you drill the Impulse?

EDIT:  Preferential Spin Axis.  I forgot what it was.    On the TimeZone the PSA pin came loose and fell out since the thumbhole had been drilled half way through it.

yeah the psa is like a mini pin. on the classic its very clear a white dot down from the cg which is a little punch mark sorry if i didnt clear that up.
well the impulse i have is kinda drilled like your bruiser which is a ball i love. but the cg is farther out. i would do it like the way i recommended the classic or go over the ring with the cg line up with it or farther out. even for a particle the ball is pretty clean through the front but still needs a touch of oil. i can recommend a lot more but those two would be the top 2 choices for the IZ. anything else you can ask anything i am so use of useful and useless bowling knowledge.

Thanks again.  I will probably pick up the Classic this week.  I may try to sneak the Absolute by my wife too.  If I buy her another Louis Vuitton bag she may go for it.

HOLY CRAP ITS CHARKY!!!!!!!!

You said low RG, first ball that came to mind, classic zone second ball impulse zone.  According to Brunswick stats the classic is a much longer and more angular ball, and depending on the drilling could fit right into the spot you are looking for.

I got one of those large plastic Corona bottles from Spencer Gifts and I drop pocket change in it every day.  It adds up to a new bowling ball in about a month.  As for the LV bags, she gets most of them at the swap meets.  She's gotta hook up with a lady that gets them from NY so she gets a volume discount.  But you see, how can she say no to a new bowling ball.

I definitely need something LESS angular to the pocket.  My TimeZone is skid/hook as well as the Bruiser.  I dig the big arc of the Goliath and the power it has when it hits the pins.  Even on light hits.  A ball with just a bit more length, so I can plan down and in, would be perfect.  I think I can set up the Classic to do just that.

I would get the Goliath if I wasn't in the hole with bills and such, got too many balls to fit in my locker plus I have a Fire Quantum on the way. If I get out of my funk I'll enter a tournament or two with my current arsenal and see if I'll change things around...

well a lot of balls work to a lot of diff drillings and some dont. since the goliath is so strong already some drillings might not be good for it. but anyways with the drillings i suggested man you should be able to play anywhere just about on A typical house shot and that ball should be good for the down and in line. one of mine is great at it but the other well i havent tried it yet. but both my classics are gems. plus my impulse is great. i see how you wrok it out man i wish i will have a wive who doesnt mind me getting a new ball.
