As for my question, I can get a like new condition Blast Zone for a pretty nice price. I need a ball that handles some ugly carrydown conditions I face in my Tuesday league. Will this ball possibly fill the bill here?

The core/cover combination is VERY STRONG (ultra low rg/high dif./high intermediate dif. core + Solid Activator cover (Ultimate Inferno).
While it will be very good on carrydown, due to it "starting up" before it reaches carrydown, the backend movement will be smooth & continuous. Not a bad thing, just making sure you understand what you are going to see.

We have polished most of them to one degree or another, but for bad carry down you may have more luck without the polish. You'll need to experiment a bit.

And yes it is pretty strong. I keep mine at 2000 abralon for oil..

Lane, we also have polished most of them we drilled. IME, higher pin with 5 to 5-1/2 range drillings match up better for the majority of the bowlers. Surface adjustments follow after that..
Polish over 500-1000 abralon base is what I generally use on Blast. Works pretty well for most. If carry-down is the case, according to the amount of oil, I either choose 2000 or 4000 abralon..
Mine is drilled 45 X 5-1/2 X 30 with a x-hole on my PAP. With polish over 1000 abralon, it becomes really alive at backends. Not a skid-snap ofcourse but definitely strong down the lane. Much sharper than similar drilled&prepared Nemesis, Strike Zone and Ambush.

Good luck, FastTracker33 with the BLAST ZONE. Those of us who have thrown one know that once you match up the surface to the condition it can be a valuable part of an arsenal. It's the "anti-skid-snap" control ball.

If the MB position ain't right on a strong mass bias ball, it doesn't make difference where the pin is or what the surface is. It will all be wrong. A bad MB can easily overpower a correct pin and a correct surface, at least in my experience.
Both pin AND MB position are of the utmost importance on a strong mass bias ball.

I'm sure it was the lay out,it had a ton of backend,just couldn't find a good match between cover and reaction.5-1/2" pin to pap,pin under grip X MB @ 75*
