It''s been said many times here that pin positions for the entire Twisted Fury series should be kept fairly strong because the RG differential is relatively weak (.036"), compared to many of today''s balls (.050" range). Your and your driller''s mistake, in my opinion, was probably placing the pin 5.5" away from the axis. Even as a cranker that would result in relatively little flare on this ball.
I have both a TF pearl, the original and the solid. Both are drilled with the pin at 4.5" from my axis and both get excellent reactions. No, they don''t cover 45 boards, but they get lots of pin action and are very reliable and consistent. I would never call them control balls either.
* Both also have a fairly strong mass bias strength. So you have to be very careful about placing the MB with respect to your PAP, ball speed, rev rate, tilt and rotation.
* I also wonder if, at 1000 grit, your TFS''s stock surface was too rough to make the turn on what were drying lanes. It might have been burning up, using up its energy in the midlane. Maybe it just needed slightly less surface or a slight amount of polish. I''ve taken mine up to P3000 grit matte because I don''t see enough oil to use it at its stock surface.
