Discontinued Brunswick help...
« on: December 12, 2005, 03:59:59 AM »
Ok people, I really need your help with this ok. I have a Johnny Petraglia LT-48 gold solid, I have been trying to find some equipment (preferably older...) to compliment it. Well, I have found some stuff I made be able to get but I need some guidance. By the way, I've tried to use Brunswicks ball comparison chart, but I don't think it gives an "accurate" view of what ball is to do what compared to each other...IMHO. Here are the balls I'm looking into and these are from the Fuze line (I'll be throwing 16lbs too.):

-Eliminator
-Navy Sparkle
-Igniter
-Purple Pearl

As far as my LT-48 is concerned, it is drilled label leverage if I remember correctly, which is the way I would have all of my stuff drilled anyway. My LT-48 is a BEAST on a THS and I think it'll do well on some sport condtions whenever I join a sport league. I need some help with carry down, med. heavy, and lighter oil conditions. I'm relatively old school in that I believe strong in adjusting to the shot. I could care less about this "hook-in-a-box" craze that is going on now. My hand position(s) aren't that great so that's why I rely on adjust for now. Thanks in advance for all replies and help.

I've got a Fuze Igniter that was owned by LPBA star Kim Adler. The ball is like new with very few games on it. I had the ball plugged and re-drilled for myself but I have probably only shot 3 to 5 games with it.

Check out the Eliminator for medium to heavy oil and carrydown situations. It is one of the best controll balls I know and many people around here swear on it as a go-to option for tournaments (me too). It is smooth, rather rolly, not a snap ball. But it will work on almost anthing with good length - this is a keeper. From newer balls, you might chekc out the new BVP Ambush which seems to have a similar reaction setup, although I think the Eliminator is stronger (lower RG, higher flare potential).

Igniter and Purple Pearl are balls for medium-dry conditions, the Purple Pearl being a hot tip among crankers to conquer dry and worn-out lanes because it is a low-flare ball. For you, the Igniter might be the better option.

The Navy Sparkle Fuze is an extremely designed ball, and what I have witnessed about it is that it either really works for you - or not! High load particle, high RG, high flare potential. The ball was designed to delay hooking action for Brunswick's proactive balls. I have seen some in action, and they make a smooth turn - smoother than an Eliminator.

My personal advice would be to check out the Eliminator and the Igniter. Both use the same coverstock base (Aggressive Reactive, derived from PK18), the Eliminator being solid and with a light particle load, and the Igniter with a harder, pearlized version for more length on dry boards. Both have similar (not identical) cores also.

So dizzy, just so I understand you correctly, you are saying that the Ignitor would be better for med. to lighter oil conditions...is this correct.

Is the reason you want old stuff that you believe that new releases are aimed at high hook potantials and nothing else?  Sure there has been a shift to more agressive bowling balls as is evidenced by the great sales of the ultimate inferno and other high hook potential balls, but this is not all there is.  Generally all ball manufacturers come out with pieces to handle a great array of conditions and therefore there are control pieces, such as the punisher, the power grooves, and the blazing inferno (granted this one is retired).  There aren't too many pure control balls because tournaments conditions are often times medium to heavy oil.  Also with the shift that many companies are making toward asyms. agressive stuff can have their motors tamed down.
