What piece to complement my Nexxxus?
« on: June 25, 2013, 08:59:12 AM »
Hey Guys,

I have the Nexxxus but am looking for a complimentary piece to help me cover different conditions.  I am a stroker with my dual angle being 75 X 3/14 X 30.

I was thinking a hybrid maybe because with my low rev rate I have problems with the really strong solids, they mostly puke out on me it seems.

any help/insight would be appreciated.  Thanks!

The Meanstreak Brawler (hybrid) has been phenomenal for me.  I've used it from dull to shiny with great results.

In my opinion it truly is the best of both worlds.  Mine is drilled pin down at about 4 1/2" from my PAP.  Just a strong and smooth arc for me, but still hits like most of the pearls on house shots.  Very, very versatile ball.

Clay, as you already know,  my Versa-Max has been very versatile for me. Is the Brawler as versatile or more versatile or ? than the Versa-Max?

Tennispro, how are you looking to compliment the Nexxxus. Are you looking for something stronger, weaker?

Brickguy, For me the Brawler is a little sooner than the Versa Max. But still very versatile. For me, a pin up is more than the pin down.

Jim,

The Brawler allows me to open up angles more than the Versa Max.  I played my Versa Max down and in, while my Brawler comes to life when I'm swinging it out a bit.  As the lanes open up more I can keep following the shot inwards without losing the strong finish.

I have a higher rev friend who says his Brawler has surprised him as to how much lane it covers.  As with all balls, if you match up well with what is on the lanes you will be happy.  The Brawler has been an "everyday" ball for me though.

Tennispro, given your bowling style I would suggest maybe looking at a Meanstreak instead of a Brawler.  It will give you more length and is a good step down from the Nexxxus with less overall hook.  If you wanted something for a heavier condition I would suggest the new Meanstreak Beatdown that will release the 31st of July.

This is a good question.  I'm trying to use 2 balls (the Nexxxus + ______) to cover the most conditions possible.  I usually never bowl in a complete flood, but I do bowl on some different patterns and surfaces.  I hope this helps.  Thanks again for the insight so far, I'm taking notes!

Would you recommend the same drilling as on the nexxxus?

Not necessarily.  It depends on whether you want a step up from the Nexxxus, or step down.  If a step down, then the Meanstreak does it nicely and I agree with Chris.

If a step up, then the cover is easily tweaked to handle a bit more volume.  My Nexxxus was longer and more angular for me than the Brawler has been.

If you truly have trouble getting solids to hit for you then the Brawler is a good go-between.  The blue is solid, while the copper and gold are the pearl.  Either way, we are glad to help you if we can with layouts, etc. after you make your choice.

What lane surface are you on, and do you have any idea regarding volume?  These are things to consider, too.  Keep us posted.

Thanks for your response.  I am hoping to get a strong, but smooth reaction to go with the nexxxus.  I am a 250 rev stroker with about 14-15 mph ball speed.  I normally bowl on medium and medium-heavy shots.

Any layout advice or other suggestions are always appreciated.

Thanks again!

by the way, my home center is the one on the PBA show tonight, but my shot is just a bit easier than this normally :)

I would agree with Chris here. An original Meanstreak would be a great fit. With your speed, I can see why you have problems with Solids. The Meanstreak is a pearl that is really clean through the fronts. You will be able to go to this when the Nexxxus hooks too much or you begin to loose carry with it.
