Aura and Meanstreak initial impressions
« on: October 16, 2012, 10:22:35 AM »
So I drilled one of each yesterday and threw them in league last night. I was simply shocked  by these. Both balls are simply different than Brunswick has available now. I did not say better, I said different. Just to be clear.
I am a slightly rev dominate player to give some info on me with around 500 revs tilt is around 12 degrees.
I drilled my first Aura with a 50x5.5x70 no hole. I was amazed how strong this ball really is. I wasted half a game not believing how strong it really is. This was by far the deepest I have ever been with a solid cover pin down ball in my life. I could throw it as far right as I wanted to and it would return with no quit. I actually had to keep more end over end roll on it to avoid the ball going sideways.
The Meanstreak is drilled 30x4.5x70 with a hole on my PAP. I wanted this to replace a warn out Versa Max. The Meanstreak is very very clean through the fronts. I can not believe how clean it is. It definitely corners harder than the Versa Max does. I did not throw this much last night. When I did my initial thought was if the ball was ever going to hook. It did, even with the stronger pin placement and stronger mass angle the ball still was plenty clean and plenty motion on the back.
Once I throw these more I will post official reviews on them I am also drilling one more of each that I will post reviews on as well.
If you like the Nexus line, the Aura is a step above that. It is cleaner longer and stronger. For those of us that love the Versa Max, the Meanstreak is just as amazing.
If you haven't tried any of the newer Brunswick balls, you are really missing out on some great product. If you want to try one of the new Brunswick balls, get either the Aura or Meanstreak and see for your self how good Brunswick is.

Interesting core on the Aura....might be worth a "Look."

Nope, I don't see it.  It does 'Look' differently.

Glad to see that about the meanstrek. When I saw the higher rg core and read the balls intention I knew this would fit the mark of my Wicked Siege which has been an amazing ball for me.

After throwing the two balls some on the fresh and the breakdown the last few days I can honestly say these are the two best matchups I have had in a long time.  The Aura is cleaner on the fresh than the Nexxxus and has a stronger move down lane.  The new cover has improved ability to recover off the dry.  Where my Nexxxus sees the dry a little early and backs down after the lane has been transitioned some this ball just keeps hooking.  There isn't a point too far right to get the ball back to the pocket on our house shot.  Like Adam said it is amazing to see how strong the move downlane is with this ball and the carry is second to none.  I had a flying power player type messenger playing the ball up 12 with no hand.  It is simply impressive.  My only complaint is the name simply doesn't seem to do the ball justice and describe impressive nature of the balls characteristics.  The Meanstreak is the best rolling ball I have ever had out of the box!  I thought the Versamax was good and played on a variety of conditions but this ball is just plain matches up better.  It gets easier length than the Versamax on the fresh with more recovery on the back.  It is as angular as I want it to be but still very controlable. The ball also seems to allow me to stay in the same area for a few more frames when compared to the Versamax.  I had a Rattler from years past that I matched up on most conditions and had a number of honor scores.  The meanstreak is that kind of versatile matchup piece only cleaner through the fronts with more downlane recovery and better carry.

Boy the Meanstreak sounds great. I appreciate these reviews.

I just got a used VersaMax, had them slug and redrill the thumb (the span was off by 1/16" in the ring finger) and put new inserts in it.  $60 later I'm thinking, "Wow, I basically got a brand new VersaMax for $60 drilled!"  Now I'm thinking, "Wow, I need to get me a Meanstreak instead!"

Doug, The Meanstreak will compliment the Versa well. What we are seeing is longer usability with the Meanstreak. You can get it back from farther right than you can the Versa.

I have been eyeing many balls on the market trying figure out which one might need to be my mid season ball, and i have to say, first reaction when i looked at specs for both of these was wow, how am i gonna convince the ol lady i need two more.  The meanstreak looks like it will play close to my C-System 2.5, and the Auro looks like i can snug the breakpoint into that deep "corner" of the lane that is working so well for me right now from left of my teammates.  Guess i have son convincing to do.

Thanks! I wonder how much it would overlap with my Raven Quantum, which can seemingly come back from nowhere.  Similar core specs, but obviously a more modern cover on the Meanstreak.  My VM is drilled to break sooner and smoother, so I think the two will complement each other.  Still interested in the Meanstreak though!

MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

After just two games with each ball this morning on a fresh house shot with good volume inside, all I can say is WOW!

Aura - I have never, ever, seen a solid that turns the corner and keeps going like this one!  Easy length and powerful move towards the pocket.  This one is gonna be fun!

Meanstreak - Exceptional length through the heads. At first I was moving around to see what area I had.  Too far inside and the ball went a bit long... No problem.  Small move out with a straighter "up the boards" line and the ball was MONEY.  The higher RG core and the cover allow the ball to save everything for the last 1/3 of the lane.  Pretty angular for me.  Great carry.  More to come after a few league sessions...

How dose the Aura compare to the Nexxus.

For me the Aura appears to be cleaner and more angular/continuous than the Nexxus P+R.
