Avalanche pearl. Your impressions
« on: September 22, 2008, 11:05:02 AM »
I just won an auction for an avalanche pearl and was wondering what everyones general impression is, especially those guys that have thrown one.

Which would hook the most, a regular power groove or the avalanche pearl?

This ball hooks very little, it is IMHO definitively longer and straighter than a PG. Do not make the mistake and drill it too weak - it might not move at all due to the low flare core. Great for ridden/almost dry lanes.

Very good ball for its intended lane condition.Very good hitting power.

Mine is drilled 3’ pin to PAP, with weight hole down on my VAL. This layout was suggested by my driller he said to me he had drilled a couple 5’ pin to PAP and they are rather squinty.

Mine is long and smooth, exactly what I want.

Like everyone else has said, the Avalanche Pearl needs friction.  It is my most controllable ball when the lanes are toasted.

It is definately a ball to have in a tournament arsenal,  you may not use it much, but it will come in very handy when everyball is rolling out.
Nice thing about the Avalanche pearl is you finally get a good core in a dry lane ball, most dry lane balls are usually 3 piece pancake cores.

I agree with the other comments on laying out your avalanche pearl, put a stronger drilling on the ball.

I would be in trouble if i didnt have an av pearl.  it is my goto ball.  i can baby it to make it hook or use it to play straight instead of opening up the lanes.  you are lucky uou won it.  i have pin above bridge and cg under ring.  my favorite ball.
