why so many 10's with my u.i.???
« on: September 18, 2008, 12:55:10 AM »
i love the way my u.i. reacts -- it snaps and drives to the pocket just the way i want it to, but lately ive been leaving 10, after 10,after 10 pin?  is it just me or is this ball prone to leaving 10's? anyone else that has one, please let me know and what to do to try and kick the 10 out more than not? note: this is NOT a remake ball.

It is you try backing up on the approach a bit like three inches sometimes that will change the angle enough to get the ten out or move left maybe a half board or more if that will allow your shot to work.

The best advice regarding the 10 pin is to change your angle to the pocket. Sometimes the lighter hits are working, and others you need to be high flush. It can be different each time you bowl so keep an open mind and don't be afraid to change your line.

If you like the reaction shape and entry angle that's leaving 10 pins, you may want to reconsider what equates a good reaction and entry angle.  Most likely, the ball is rolling and hooking too early or too late for the breakpoint you're using.  Try playing a different part of the lane (small move inside or outside, also try a big move, see what happens).  Try a different hand position (less axis rotation, more axis rotation, that type of deal).  As far as altering the surface, if it's burning up its energy too early, a higher grit finish or polish will help, if it's hooking too late and not getting back to the pocket well enough, a lower grit surface will help.  And of course, it may just be the wrong ball choice for the lanes you're on.

Yup. Either take some hand out of your release, or move on the approach some inches towards or away from the foul line, if anything else works well. Also a 2/2 move of feet and target can help.

As you can tell from all the previous replies, balls don't leave 10 pins, people leave 10 pins.

Depending on how you leave the 10 pins, weak or ringing, there are any number of reasons for it. In general the ball is not reacting properly on the line you are using. Possible reasons.
- being an original, it can be tracked out.
- being an original, it can be oil soaked.
- too little oil for the ball surface
- too much oil for the ball surface
- drilled too strongly for the current line and oil amount.
- drilled too weakly for the current line and oil amount.

Solutions can be as varied:
- rejuvenate the ball
- refresh the surafce
- resurface the ball completely.
- use a different line
- use a different ball speed
- use more rotation upon release.
- redrill it weaker or stronger
- redrill it with a higher pin or a lower pin.
- change the surface: add polish, a higher grit level or a lower grit level

thanks for all of your comments. i will try some of the suggestions mentioned. i would like to say that i have taken care of this ball, as best as possible, meaning i clean it regularly. but it probally has aprox. over 100 + games, so maybee i need a new one.that brings me to the next question -- about the re-make u.i. --- are they just as good as the original???

They are the same, with the possibility that the surface finish looks closer to 2000 to me, but that's easily adjusted anyway.

10 in the pit -  again,  I would suggest picking up the remake UI sooner than later (better safe than sorry).

I have been throwing my remake for a couple months now and it reacts the same as my original ultimate inferno.
I still think that this still one of the best balls for heavily oiled lane conditions.  Activator coverstock with the inferno core is a classic combination.

And back to your original question on leaving tenpins,  I find that my UI is so strong that I sometimes start leaving corners when my ball starts to roll up too early.  This is a sign to change balls.

It's definitely a ball you have to know when to put down.  The ball is great when your able to play out.  For me, once I have to get inside the track area I have to put it away.  Overall it's a great ball.
