Beginner question

So I'm bowling in a house with pretty dry lanes and i have a Vapor Zone. I recently had my ball polished but still am not getting a snappy hook into the pocket i had hoped for. I feel like a have to throw the ball slower than usual to get it to hook. Do i need to have something else done to my ball? Also, on these conditions, should i release the ball more to the outside to give the ball a chance to come back to the pocket? thanks guys, I'm just starting to get real into bowling and want to learn as much as i can! Any advise would be appreciated.

It depends on what polish your using. If you used brunswick ruff buff that kills the balls hook potential. If you really want hook, take the coverstock down to a lower grit then hit it with brunswick high gloss polish. That should get it down the lane but keep a good backend motion.

And yes if you want more angle get the ball to the edge sooner and have a ton of revs it will come storming back. The Vapor zone is not that aggressive of a ball to begin with but I'm sure it can hook on just a THS.

how low of a grit would you suggest? Is this something i would do, or have a pro shop do?

Have your pro shop adjust the surface AND throw it further outside (THS) and the ball will finish hard.
I like to go pretty dull (400-600) before adding the rough buff on this one. Another good option is 2000 abralon and zero polish.
My Vapor is the biggest back end ball that I have, but it needs some friction (don't they all?) to make a strong move.
