Title: Avalanche Slide..much stronger than advertised?
Post by: The Syrup on May 16, 2010, 10:34:53 PM
Have had my Slide for about 3 weeks now, and finding it way stronger then I thought it would be.
Drilled it Label Leverage, left in OOB condition.Doesnt go anywhere near as long as I thought it would, with a very sharp move when it encounters friction.
Definitley a medium condition piece for me...way too much ball for light / dry.
Having said that, this is a very good ball nonetheless, smashes the pins with way above average carry.

May I suggest that next time you don't drill a ball leverage when you want it for dry lanes?
Try at least 5" pin to PAP, if not more.

If you want to keep it for medium oil, try a SlingShot for drier/light oil lanes. It's cheaper and seems slightly better suited for dry. I like mine and I did use a 5" pin to PAP (85x5x40 or 5x5x3 {pin to PAP x pin to CG x pin to VAL}).

Why do so many people think the Avalanche series is weak? It is PK18 people. It is gonna hook.

Only the Avalanche solid and pearl are PK18 coverstocks.
The Avalanche Slide is special Activator blend for length. It is a light oil ball. If you check the Brunswick ratings, it is barely, just barely stronger than a SlingShot.

Charlest i have both a slingshot and two avalanche slides, the slingshots get less flare, and have alot less hook in general.

there is a bigger gap that what you'd believe.

The Slide saves "all the energy" for the backend - when it hits friction it makes you look like the "Big Nasty" throwing the ball. It has the largest backend of any of the Avalanches I own - but not the biggest overall hook.

Thanks.

I was beginning to hope that I can use these as a 1-2 combo over the 4 games of league. We'll see about that.
