Ball Choices
« on: November 05, 2005, 02:56:43 AM »
I currently am using a Punisher and I absolutely love it. One question I did have though is usually after my first game with it I notice a loss of hook, due to oil build up, and causes me to move considerably to the right, there fore playing a shot that I'm not to comfortable with.  Ball feels like it's been wiped down with a grease rag.  My question is would a Rampage drilled the same, same pin out, as my Punisher do better in the long haul?  Punisher is drilled 4L with pin out 2"-3".  Or Should I look at something else.  Currently have a 15lb Raging Red Fuze, drilled 2L; 15lb Smokin Inferno, drilled 2L.  I consider these balls to be my oily to heavy oil balls.

A Rampage drilled 4L would do, just wipe off the oil after every frame...

Are you sure its that the ball is soaking up the oil, or that the lanes are getting carry down?

Brunswick,Lane#1,Morich,Hammer,Ebonite,Columbia,AMF,Storm,RotoGrip......they all leave ten pins, I swear after I try dynothane and lanemaster if the ten pins still there I might begin to think it might just be
me...... (finally decided to add a signature)

I'd say that it's the ball soaking up oil, only because if I clean the ball with a cleaner/energizer, the ball has no problem finding it's way to the pocket from my original stance.

Would the Rampage be too much for me?  I am a high rev, med speed bowler who uses a lot of hand.  The reason I bought the Punisher was because of the length.  So far it has served it purpose to a tee.  Problem is when it starts to soak up oil, I start shifting right and lose some backend hook.  Do you think the Rampage will solve this problem?

Once the Rampage hits any dry area, it'll flip hard. It does for me

Sounds more like carry down to me. I know from experience that the Punisher does not do well in carry down. It needs dry on the backends to perform as intended.

Also, go to Walmart and buy a package of micro-fibre towls in the automotive section. Best towls for wiping off oil and they are real cheap.

Deke,

Any ball that will handle carrydown better than the Punisher will obviously hook more overall. The problem is how much carrydown.  If you can still use the Punisher by moving back to the right, then you're pretty much handling the problem. The Rampage, while being a stronger coverstock (PK18 vs N'control of the Punisher), is still a resin pearl. You could also probably start the game with the Rampage, but start by standing deeper than you do with the Punisher. No doubt, after the first game, you'd still have to move right at least by a small amount. In order to handle the carrydown properly, you shouldn't drill the Rampage weaker than your Punisher.

Normally, the Rampage will not go as long as the Punisher and will have more hook, as it is a fairly strong resin pearl, as strong as someother manufacturer's polished solid resins.
