15 lb or 16 lb?

i am wondering why the professionals and or great bowlers use 15 lb instead of 16 lb.  i thought i heard that walter ray still uses 16, but he is one of just a few.  i currently use 16 and was wondering what the advantage to using a 15 is?  my speed is around 15.5 to 16 and i am a stroker not a cranker. i just dont want to start throwing too hard if i switched.

It's easier to cup the ball with a 15 than a 16 and get more revs on the ball.  The pound you lose won't affect carry.  I mean, with today's balls how often is it a problem to carry the 5?  Deflection doesn't really exist any longer.

Even 14 is probably alright for carry to be honest but many people (myself included) get into speed issues then.

15 seems to be a weight a lot of people like because it's easier to rev up than a 16 and heavy enough that it won't be thrown too fast like is the case with 14's.

As for carry I'd imagine they all perform about equal if you have good entry angle.  

Use what's best for you.  It's all about matching up.

I switched due to constant elbow pain akin to tendonitis about 7 years ago. Pin carry hasn't suffered that much and seemed like I get a few extra revs on the ball. The plus was the elbow pain went away

I dropped from 16 to 15 several years ago because I was getting tired and my shoulder was killing me by the end of game 1! I made the 1 pound drop and all has been well every since. I gained pin carry, a little more revs, and better accuacy.

according to rick benoit, the brunswick ball rep on the pba tour, 70% of touring pros use 15lb. equipment. there are a few who use 14lb. balls and the rest use 16lb. equipment, commonly referred to as, "man weight ".

some of those using 16lb. equipment: walter ray williams, jr., norm duke, brian voss, chris barnes, robert smith, parker bohn III.

WRW went back to 16# at the end of last season because he was leaving a lot of 5 pins and 8-10s.  For someone with not a lot of angle like WRW, the 15# was deflecting too much and hitting weak.

Carry is different but comparable between different weights.  It's more important that you have something comfortable to throw that you can control than what exact weight it is.
