A La Carte pricing was introduced to provide the pro shop with higher profits and the customer itemized services. With the economy being the way it is and customers looking everywhere to find a deal, this subject came to mind. I remember when there was one price for pro shop purchases that was a savings to the customer.  Just a thought.

We have no a la cart pricing here...never have...

Yet many times I hear a customer ask, "how much extra for drilling"...

Our prices are very much inline with online dealers...

People aren't stupid... They know if they buy a ball online for $150... They still need to have it
drilled...And depending on the area, that could be $30, $40, $50 or more...

So when they see you selling the ball they could buy  for $150 online for $189,   doing the math, they
know they are getting a GOOD DEAL...

Thanks Ebonite, Thanks Storm...

WAKE UP Brunswick and Dexter...

Why just Brunswick and Dexter? I hear our local shop owner say he would never carry Visionary because they sell to the public(direct to the public) for the same price as they do proshops.

Consumers can buy visionary direct from the manufacture.

By "a la carte", I assume it is meant the ball is priced separately from the drilling. Here in central and northern NJ, I rarely saw "a la carte" pricing. Balls were priced as drilled. (Thumb and finger inserts were always considered extras.)

Only recently have I seen it and then its purpose was to let potential buyers know that the shop was charging the same price as the bowler could get off the interne. Drilling was extra.

I do price my sales as  price of ball
                                   price of drill
                                   price of finger grips
                                   price of thumb

                          sub total
                           tax
total                                               customer knows what he has paid for

jls,

Brunswick does have minimum retail pricing. I forget what they call it, but I know it's there. In fact, I know of one product specialist (sales rep), who has come down on a pro shop for selling below the minimum retail price.

Itemized pricing has always worked better for my shops. It is like buying a car, if you want extras you have to pay for it and if you just want the base model you don't have to pay extra. Why should someone who doesnt use grips or a slug pay the same as someone who does?
