Ball to compliment Ambush
« on: June 23, 2006, 02:28:25 PM »
I just bought a new 15 lb 3oz Ambush. This was to fit in under my Columbia Action.  Drilled aggressive 3-3/8 inch from pap.  Ball is 3-4 inch pin. Pin ends up right under almost touching ring finger.  I love this ball already.  Bowled first 4 games with it 190, 218, 190, 195 while missing some easy spares.
Used a more direct line with this ball.  Right foot on 3 throwing hard with hand behind ball to 7. I bought this for carrydown, but this night no carrydown but my Action went away and I had no medium ball, so I used Ambush. I just sold my Detour and am looking for a Brunswick ball to replace it.

I am considering Original Inferno (found a new undrilled ball for sale), or a Vapor Zone, or other suggestion.  How would the Original Inferno compare to the Ambush. Is there enough difference between these to have both?  I would like a little more length and backend in next ball than Ambush, to fill out my arsenal. I am not a high rev player, but do have a lot of speed, like to play behind ball and turn wrist on release.

Get the Original, drill it with a nice smooth drilling such as Rico and sand the it down a little bit just to smooth it out. I find that both my Ambush and Original act very similiar, the Original just goes MUCH longer than the Ambush but that is partly the way I drilled it.

Thanks for the reply, Twoheadedboy.  A racing customer of mine has a Rampage and really likes it.  He can play it on most conditions. He feels it is one of the most versatile balls out there.  His style is much slower speed and many more revs than I do.

I'd also say: if you look for a ball "under" the Ambush, I'd rather choose the Rampage or even a Punisher (when you expect drier conditions). The OI was made for similar conditions as the Ambush. It might give you more length and back end, and an "edgier" overall recation, but you will IMHO not be happy with it when there is little oil. Rampage, maybe drilled weaker with the pin 1/2" further away from PAP, should be a good option for what you are looking for. Even a pearl reactive Power Groove could be a low budget option, since these things are pretty strong.

Nevertheless, the OI is a good ball and storing one is not a bad idea either...

Thr Rampage would be the opposite end of the reaction scale. If you want to have arc with the Ambush and then a skid-snap ball, get the Rampage, like the peers here have receommended. (I just deleted something because I didn't read your posted completely . Yes, for length and stronger backend, go with the Rampage.)

So far the Rampage has been the number one pick.  Last night in league the lanes were toast, driest I have ever seen. I put the Ambush up and pulled out a weakly drilled Flipside Panic, and it hooked brooklyn like mad. Lanes were so dry even in middle playing inside couldn't find pocket.  Best line was way outside throwing ball through out of bounds oil, and hoping it stayed there long enough to get near pocket.  After league was over, I took a 14lb Punisher that the proshop is trying to sell used and threw that down 1st arrow.  Second ball I threw was a strike.  Nothing I had would even find the pocket.  If it had been a 15lb ball I would have bought it for the $40 they wanted.

The Rampage sounds like it might be the medium go to ball I have been looking for. The two Brunswick balls I have thrown seems like the coverstocks match up better for me than Columbia (except Action which I love).  The Superflex on Detour and Superflex Pearl on Panic can be jumpy on synthetic lanes.  The guy I sold Detour to loves it but he is high rev.

The Brunswick balls seem smoother.  Even though the  Ambush was hooking too much it was not jumpy.  I should have used my Target Zone and put everything else up.
