Ball to kill backends?
« on: January 27, 2007, 09:34:11 AM »
I realized today that i very rarely have the opportunity to truly see what flying back ends r like anymore.  Today i went out to bowl & the back ends were clean enough to eat off of, im talkin NOTHING out there.

I tried everything i had, a dull total inferno stayed somewhat controlled off the break, but died b4 it got to the pins, my lanemasters world class hit the dry & took a u turn to the pocket, worked great, but gave me absolutely zero area.  My doom took a HARD left, & i couldnt play right of 18 with it at all.

The only ball i had that stayed somewhat tame was my smokin inferno, 5.5" pin to pap, with a flare reducing weight hole.  I cant get this ball to wrinkle half the time, & i could somewhat consistantly play 15 to 5 with it without too much over/under.

Is there anything anyone can suggest for taming flying back ends?  My only thought was a mammoth, drilled with the pin about 5" to pap, under fingers, with a ton of polish on it.

Any other ideas?

Shawn

I have a bunch of hand and when I get to a condition that has squeaky clean back ends only one thing works, pin axis.  Adjust the cover to match the volume of oil, works for me on extreme wet dry at least.   Just another thought

have a good one

I like AKA's suggestion.  Pin-axis drills are designed for exactly that condition.    I wouldn't go with long pin distances as they tend to give length and backend reaction.  I think shorter pin-to-PAP distances would work better.

Try big pin (4-5) pin high above ring,
CG will end up negative. MB will be in the track.
Ball will mellow out the backs ! I combined this
from a ball I received from Tekneek, with a heavy
14 (I normally throw 15), Ball was 14# 9 OZ after
drill.

I would go a differnt route.....

weaker ball with more surface

Our lanes are notoriuos for screaming backends and I have actually gone to a Special Agent with the box finish and a 4x4-1/2 layout to make it work.

Get a ball that's not going to hook a ton and then get it rolling to bleed off some energy. Polish will make a ball store energy and then turn sideways when it encounters the dry.

I even toyed with the idea of a stacked leverage dry/r with 4000 grit Abralon.

Just my thoughts...
