Durability
« on: January 30, 2007, 06:35:38 AM »
I've had a problem with my Ebonite equiptment dying on me like 2 or 3 times. I bought a Total Inferno and it has about 30 games on it now. I keep it pretty clean and treat it good. Do Brunswick balls usually hold up well or do they have a short life span like "The One". I love this ball and I hope it lasts a while but I'll buy another one if I have to!

Activator is one of the new generation of covers that's purposefully designed for durability and longevity, along with Soaker, Reactor, PK18, and Lanemaster's covers.

Is there a consensus on the Octane coverstock longevity?

What, now that it's been out all of three months?  Too soon to tell, though given its pedigree (PK18 and Activator), I'd expect it to last quite a while.

The Octane cover seems to be holding up pretty well on my teammates Radical Inferno. Shes had it for a little over 3 months and it has yet to lose any hook, then again she dont have much of a hook either. 4-6 boards tops. A few other people that ive seen with the Radical have 150-300 games on theirs, all they do is weekly cleaning and the performance has been the same. Maybe a board less hook overall.

I still use the one I drilled up at the Mini-eliminator. I probably have between 200-400 game on it and I haven't even had to resurface it yet. Still my favorite ball in my bag. No real reaction loss yet. The cover holds up just as well if not better than activator.

according to brunswick the key to maintaining the life and durability of your ball is to :

1) clean it after every time you use it

2) resurface it with a haus-type machine when a track in the coverstock develops.

3) extract the absorbed lane oil by placing the ball in a rejuvenator or revivor machine.

Brunswick makes one of the MOST if not the most durable covers in bowling. No Ebonite like ball death here. I would really like Ebonite if it were not for that actually.

I changed the surface of my TI to a 1500 grit polished finish to give it a little more length and its an absolute monster for me now. Still very archy and more controlable type aggresiveness to it.

Will that make a difference in the longevity?
