Copperhead: Your Impressions
« on: January 29, 2009, 11:50:27 AM »
I am going to be punching up a Copperhead for myself this coming weekend.  I was wondering what some of you who own one think of the ball.  Likes / dislikes, what kind of conditions you like to use it on?  Also, what kind of drill patterns you guys have on yours.  Just curious, trying to get an idea of what to expect out of the ball, thanks!!

i bought mine with the intention of using it on oilier lanes. i left it in box condition( 800 grit ). mine is drilled strong( pin and cg 4 1/2" from pap with big hole down near thumbhole ). i've only used it in my saturday night mixed league on wood lanes. when the plastic ball carrydown reaches my breakpoint and my ultra zone is hanging i go to the copperhead and it works great from the same line.

Expect lots of bang for the buck!

Mine is good on medium oil and blends out the over/under that is sometimes a problem with pearl reactives. Surface should be adjusted to suit your conditions, but 1000 is fairly early and quite smooth. By adding some shine (with surface underneath) the ball makes a much bigger move late on the lane, so for most house shots I like mine here. Surface is at 800 plus Snake Oil currently.
Frankly, you can spend more on a solid reactive, but it would be hard to beat this one for overall versatility and durability (PK18 cover).

Thanks for the response(s) Greg and Lane, they are very helpful and informative.  I am excited to punch this ball up, as I have been looking for something that will handle more oil than the Swarm, but have good continuation on carry down.  It looks like the Copperhead is going to fit the bill.  I am looking to go 5" Pin to PAP (under middle finger), 45 degrees, with a flare increasing x-hole (if needed).  If anyone has one with a similar set up to this, please let me know how it rolls for you, thanks!

Yes, THis ball is great, like someone else said, bang for your buck, had mine drilled pin 3 1/2" from PAP, and cg kicked out, OOB (800 grit) this ball was perfect for heavy oil, and i brought it down to 600 grit then polished it, and now it is so versatile i could play this ball on any oil pattern, this ball carries so well, i just shot a 280 with it in my juniors league on wednesday, i could miss my mark 1-2 boards left and right, and as long as it hits near pocket it would strike

I have a Copperhead, drilled 40* x 4" x 45* and it is very strong ball. Evens out the over under on house shots and have used it on all PBA patterns except the Viper. Tried 1000, 2000, and 4000 Abralon and found the ball to be most effective for me at 2000 Abralon. Can play the track on the longer PBA patterns and used it to play 1st arrow on the Cheetah this week. Smooth and continous off of the spot for me and the coverstock very versatile. Thinking of drilling another one drilled similar to a Blue Vibe (70* x 5 x 55*) and shine it up to see how good of reaction I get. Great ball for the price.

love my copperhead.....tonight is a perfect example. my favorite line of attack with my polished ultra zone was hanging and not coming up. switched to the dull copperhead....bang 268, same line, same release, etc. great on oiler lanes and/or carrydown.
