Been out of the game for a little while question...
« on: March 29, 2008, 12:45:27 PM »
In short, I've been out of the game for around ten years... I shot decent and was able to adjust to conditions well w/ a Gold Rhino Pro when I last bowled.  I did a little research on where I'm gonna be bowling and coupled w/ my style decided to go w/ a Power Groove Reactive... didn't want to spend too much $$$ out of the gate until I got my game back.  Will this ball be at all similar to the characteristics and performance of the Gold Rhino Pro?  Sorry for the ignorance, from reading this and other sites, it seems like the game has evolved tenfold since I last bowled... thanks for any info.

I had a customer a week or so back in almost the same situation.  They had a Gold Rhino Pro and wanted something similar to it, where they wouldn't have to force the ball to do the work.  We talked them into getting an Avalanche Pearl, and from last I hear, we had a happy customer.  I have heard mixed reviews on the Power Grooves, but it is a good starting point and should get the job done.

if the pearl is so much like your gold rhino pro why bother buying it if you still have your old ball?  Go with the solid avalanche.  I am VERY impressed with the steady reaction i get out of it.  Give it a little sanding and it is just simply amazing.

There is a HUGE difference between he Gold Rhino and the Avalanche Pearl.  The Gold Rhino is urethane and the Avalanche Pearl is Reactive Resin.  By nature, the ball will be a better ball.  The Solid is a decently strong ball (from what I have seen and heard) and it is easy to make a Pearl not snappy at all.

A good number of the Rhino Pro balls (not just Rhino) were resin.  I can honestly only remember a few urethane Pro's at all.  The Purple, Blue and Black were the only urethane balls in the Pro series if I am not mistaken.

Wouldn't a Red, Strike or Vapor Zone be really close to the Gold Rhino.  The Zones use a modified version of the later Rhino Pro cores (ie Gold, Rhino LE, Rhino RE etc.)

10Years,
I took 20 years off and it is a world of difference.  Heck back then if a ball was shiny it didn't hook, and if was dull it hooked.  If you wanted it to hook more, you just hit it with some sandpaper LOL.  The game seems easier quite honestly.  I am sure being older has something to do with it, but the equipment is pretty awesome nowadays.

Ok that the long way of saying why don't you try something like an Ultra Zone or Twisted Fury.  They may not be like a Gold Rhino Pro, but they are outstanding and very versatile.  I am flat in love with the EnMotion coverstock.
