Benchmark from Brunswick trio
« on: January 24, 2014, 12:35:27 PM »
I am looking for a benchmark balk to fit between my mastermind and misfit pearl. What balls from Brunswick, DV8, and Radical should I be seriously checking out?

From everything I've seen and heard I'd look towards the Torrid Affair or Melee

From Brunswick Meanstreak Beatdown or Brawler
From DV8 the Marauder, Mutiny, or Madness
From Radical Either Yeti or Torrid

Slight surface adjustments to any of these along with drilling will give you a great ball to bridge the gap you have listed.
…… you can't  add a physics term to a bowling term and expect it to mean something.

I'd go Meanstreak Brawler. Your Mastermind is a solid, aggressive coverstock while your Diva is a pearl. I think the Brawler with its hybrid cover would be the perfect fit between the other two.

I would suggest in DV8: Dude or Ruckus; and Brunswick: Melee or Mystic Aura. The Dude and Melee are smoother reacting balls and would be a good benchmark ball or when the lanes are transitioning. The Mystic Aura and Ruckus would be a step down in reaction from the Mastermind but still give a more angular reaction. If you can wait until Feb 6, then I would suggest the Mastermind Genius which would compliment the Mastermind. I haven't thrown any of the radical balls, but I would think that the Reax version 2 or the Grease Monkey would be good choices too.

A high performance ball is what I do not want. I have a critical theory as my middle ball, and it is too strong for what I want. I have an 811 c/t in its place right now, and it is a little closer to what I want, but I absolutely hate that ball. It hits like a sponge no matter what surface I put on it

Weird you have trouble with the 811C/T...I have one that crushes the pins, but mine goes longer than I hoped.  Maybe yours is mis-marked.  I had an original Taboo that could only be used in light oil, turns out it was marked wrong.

Anyway, I just ordered a Meanstreak Beatdown and will pick up a Melee to go with it.  I'm hoping the Melee will be the benchmark with the Beatdown for heavier oil.

I threw my 811 ct at a demo day and loved it. I forgot to have my driller get thr drill pattern off of it, so it is probably a different drill pattern.  Idk if it is just a drill that doesn't agree with me, or what

How is yours drilled?  Mine is pretty basic….pin up between the fingers, mb abit right of the thumb no balance hole.  4000 polished.  Probably going to take mine to 2000 no polish.
