I Made The Ultimate Sacrifice To Protect My Big-B Equipment
« on: October 21, 2005, 03:06:03 AM »
we're bowling at clifton park bowl last night here in upstate NY.
i was rolling my AI/OI and Combat Zone Tracer.

my dad has a brand new columbia300 formula bowling ball, first tims using it.
the ball monster in the back gets ahold of his ball.
rips it to shreds, and has about 15 chunks taken out of it.

he brings it up to the desk and the guy tells him it will be repaired.
i lashed back and said it was going to be replaced, he argued its going to be fixed, i said its in his track, he wasnt budging.

i was pissed at this point, i grabbed my AI and OI off the rack and used my combat zone tracer.

1 game later my dads ball disappeared again, gets about 15 more gashes in it.
and brings it up to the desk and the guy finally says , ill talk to the manager about getting it replaced. (requesting a throttle up)

after conferring with my 2 other Big-B teammates, we've decided to withdraw from the league, as a protest to the house's negligence and to protect our Big-B equipment.

it hurts to say im not bowling anymore this season, but i know taking a stand was the right thing to do.
cause just repairing a mangled ball isnt enough in my opinion.

it doesnt matter if the balls are hard or soft.
the center is still being negligent if they see a problem and allow it to happen again.

the damage was done to all quantrants of the ball.

the ball looks like the ball was spinning on something metal.
    grinding, chipping and C-Shaped chunks.

yeah I woreked for years at a busey house too, people would bring up there balls and complain about tracking and want a new ball.    So I can understand why sometimes counter people get snippy about it.

Absolutely.  At the center I worked for during my high school days, our policy was to:
    (1) point out that the center isn't liable for damage inflicted to bowling balls
    (2) take the ball from the customer to be repaired, if the customer was insistent
    (3) replace the ball if the damage was deemed too extensive to repair

Replacing the ball wasn't the first option, as you can see, nor could this be authorized by anyone other than the manager or owner.  All the desk personnel could do was either #1 or #2.  I imagine that most centers have adopted a similar policy.  Otherwise, every day you'd see people claiming ball damage so they could get a new ball at the center's expense.  So don't take it out on the desk personnel.  They have nothing to do with the ball getting damaged, and they may have their hands tied as far as what resolution they can offer.

i wish i could show you the ball.

it looks like rosie o'donnell was chomping on it for the chocolately center.

they would need to use so much patch, it would initially cover close to the entire ball.

to make matters worse, its a particle ball, so just resin patching wont be the same.

    Two things...

    1)Ultimate sacrifice?...you are dead?

2)As a counter worker I would find a request for a different ball than the one thrown strange.  Formula now a throttle R.  If replacement is going to happen I'm going to as a center manager get same or just as cheap.

Being from your area they (BNE) should be able to find another Formula to replace it with. If you are not satisfied with the managers response contact Rich Sheldon the district Manager.

Gotta like that hospitality of a Bowl New England house. Oh well i think they are still looking some bowlers at Green Island or Cohoes. The house he is talking about has always been as friendly as a piece of stone. Too bad good location.
