Problems with the Absolute-Need Help
« on: April 15, 2007, 02:35:48 PM »

I have a fairly new Absolute that I can't get to move (hook).  It is drilled with the pin to the right and just below the ring finger and 3 3/8" from my pap.  We have tried several different surface adjustments and now have it down to 800 grit.  The ball seems to go dead straight.  I also have an original Inferno that is drilled the same with no change to the surface and I have no problems with it.  Its not a big hooker, but sure moves more than this Absolute

If it will help, I am a senior bowler with ball speed of about 14 mph and lower revs.  I am standing with my left foot from 17 to 23 and my target is from 10 to 14.  The pattern is longer oil with an out of bounds from 10 to the gutter and a good amount of oil in the middle.

A while back, someone here recommended that I get at least 25 games on the ball and that it would probably start working then.  Well I now have about 30 games but still don't seen any change in the balls reaction.

I realize that this ball is not made for heavy oil but I thought it would handle a heavy medium and be as strong, if not stronger, that the original Inferno. We have continued to work on the surface but have seen little or no change. Maybe we are going the wrong way and should shine instead of dulling the surface.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with this ball?  Would a weight hole that increases the flair also help make the ball hook more?  Or is it possible that this ball just won't handle much oil?

I would really appreciate any help.

Hmm, assuming that the lane is clean and that you do not suffer from oil residue on the back end, I'd suspect the ball losing its energy too early.

Your ball is drilled in the strongest possible way, probably to make it hook as much as possibel with the limited enegry input you provide. Playing in the buffer zone, it could be that the ball simply loses anything you put into it prematurely, and rolls out. The low RG makes energy depletion even easier, and sanding the ball will (or has) made this worse.

What to do? Well, playing a much deeper line (say, between 3rd and 4th arrow) might help, since the aggressive drilling will allow you to play on deeper oil and still have the ball recover.
If this does not wrok, or not enough, I'd also try a finer surface, original Rough Buff or maybe even a polish, just to make the ball slide longer/better through the front part.

If you still feel that the ball moves too early and hits weak, maybe a flare decreasing hole above your PAP could help save more energy for the back part of the lane, but I am not an expert on this.

As a last resort, you might condider a movement of the finger holes, so that the pin would end up further away from PAP, e. g. in the brigde region.

Hope this helps a bit, but at least there are several things to try
