Best current Brunswick ball for fresher THS?
« on: November 07, 2007, 06:37:54 AM »
I'm looking to get a new ball for christmas (i'm replacing my whole arsenal, but that could take a while), and as i bowl mostly on a fresher THS, i want to get a ball that can pull that off playing a straighter line (preferably totally up the boards or from 15 to 1-4).

Stats of my shot in my profile. I don't want the ball to be very speed sensitive though.

Get something for medium oil then.  Stay away from anything like the Fury.  That's too much ball for a THS.  Maybe a Vapor Zone or Absolute Inferno.  If you want something that reads the midlane a bit more then try a Fury Pearl.

If you want something a little stringer then try a Total Inferno.  But that might be too much ball IMO.

The Vapor Zone, to me, has been my main go to ball for THS's.  I'm going to get a Twisted Fury soon because that's a higher RG pearl ball so it will take longer to rev up saving its energy for the back end.

I have both the Absolute Inferno and the Rampage. For THS I think you would do well with either or both.  I have my Rampage setup for drier conditions.

I think either fury or fury pearl work great on house shots. You may have to do a surface change but I think you would be happier in the long run. The original fury definetely would need polished or sanded to 2k or so

Red Zone IMO.  At least that's the type of condition on which I use mine.

my rampage work great on this condition. you may have to wetsand the ball to a finer grit and then polish it to get it to work but a little experimentation will show you where you need to go.

I'd also vote for either a Rampage, if you play slow and with good hand, or either a VZ or RZ as a stronger solution (higher speed), the RZ would be my favorite.
Even though I haven't seen it in action so far, the new Twisted Fury should fit well between them - worth a try if you want to spend more money. I think the other Furies would be too much ball on a THS.

The best THS ball I've ever had is a Radical Inferno. It may be discontinued, but is great on the house shot and even light sport shots. I can hook the whole lane or go straight up with the ball, its very versitale in this condition. The Vapor might not be the best choice. I find with mine, it is a 1-2 game ball and then starts to get a little jumpy.

What do you think about the Sidewinder? Is that any good?

When I had a Rampage that ball was just awesome on the THS's. Could play just about any shot I wanted. My Total Inferno is the same way. The Vapor Zone for me was great for games 1 and 2 but come 3rd game and it was a bit jumpy. Ive never used a Red Zone but ive seen them in action (very few of them) and they look to be a very nice THS ball.

Depending on your style, any one of those could be an awesome ball in your hands.

Sidewinder would IMHO be a strong option. Remember, when we talk about THS you normally have dry outside boards to cling to, and even if there is much oil on the lane you will not have big problems to make the ball move unless you have a "bad" release If you have some revs, a polished pearl will do (like those suggested before - you might even get along with a simple Power Groove!). I think you'd only need "more ball" to cover other problems - so it is up to you to decide what fits the bill for you. Too much of a ball might prove counterproductive, because it will burn out, lose energy and hit weakly, despite being a high end product
