is the ultimate inferno a good ball
« on: May 27, 2004, 01:38:54 AM »
I got this ball last Thursday, and overall I'm happy with it, but it isn't what I thought it would be. It is quite inconsistent, I have left more solid 10s and solid 7s than ever before, and personally, I think it doesn't hook enough. I got it drilled leverage weight, so it would have a lot of backend, but it does virtually nothing in oil, and loses some power if it's not thrown right. I have always been a Brunswick guy, so I can't put it down too much, and after all, I just got it a week ago. So I'm not jumping to conclusions yet, I'll write another review as time progresses.

The ultimate inferno is a good ball. But like any other bowling ball, it can't completely overcome a weak release and inconsistency at the line.
If you see the ultimate underperforming when you DO throw it well, could be it's not finding enough oil, and rolling out.

I have a UI and before I bought one I saw several people throw one out of the box cover and it rolled out. So I decided to polish mine and wow, what a difference, revs up and hooks a ton. The carry is very good, weak hits just slams the pins.

I'd deffinetly have to agree with mumzie on this one. i got my ultimate right when it came out and at first i too was dissapointed until i realized what i had. I have an early rolling drilling, as you may have, so the ball doesn't appear to hook too much yet it does, it's very even so the hook isn't noticeable. And on dry lanes this ball will hook LESS than anything else because it is dead off your hand. So make sure you're using the ball on the correct conditions and report back with findings and maybe we can guide you some more. Until then work on that balance at the line.

Good luck with the ball

chris1,

I'm afraid others have indicted you. The ball is an excellent one, far better than average. One must know when to use it, depending on your release; one must have some idea how they "require" it to be drilled, for their release, for the intended lane condition.

It can be used anywhere from medium-light to medium-heavy. On all of them it devastates the pins, WHEN USED CORRECTLY FOR YOUR RELEASE AND BALL SPEED!

They already said, because in box condition, the ball is very strong, and will roll out on anything less than medium-heavy/heavy oil conditions, appearing to hook less than other balls.  So for most conditions, it would be appear to hook more when polished.

chris1,

Yes this is a good ball, trust the ball let the ball roll.  However, dont expect the ball going coast to coast when you dont have the rev and/or hand, and this ball with box finish wont give you length/backend but a NICE control arc.

For me....the Ultimate Inferno was a huge disappointment. I expected it to be an oiler....and it wasn't.

If you like Brunswick, and want a ball for oil, get the Raging Inferno. With identical layouts...the Raging covers 5-6 boards more than the Ultimate. Maybe your case is the ball burning up and rolling out....but I know what a ball that does that looks like down the lane. For me the Ultimate looked like it was trying the entire way down the lane, but just didn't have enough to turn the corner. This was particularly true when there was oil in the backends.

I agree with EXCALIBER the ball was a disappointment for me as well in fact it's up for bids. I polished it up and the ball does react a little better on dry-medium conditions but that isn't what I got the ball for.

Seems like this may be one of those love it or hate it balls.  I got mine as an alternative to my particles for heavy oil, and it seems to do ok.  Used it in my Sweepers at the Orleans, which is knows for putting out a lot of oil, and shot 258, 217, 218, and I really don't put a ton of hand on the ball.  It is drilled to roll early, and I felt I lost a little bit of carry in the last two games, but it still rolled fantastic for me when some others were struggling.  On the other hand I used it on Pattern A at a PBA regional, and it looked terrible.  Taking it to Reno next weekend for it's final exam.  Let everyone know what happened, if I use it for any length of time.
