Title: Big B Strikes Again...
Post by: BigDogBilly62 on January 23, 2009, 03:18:00 AM
Hey every1.  I'm 16 years old and i am about a 190 average bowler.  I have bowled 2 700's with a high game of 290.  I bowl on brunswick synthetic lanes with medium oil, about 38' in length.  I have an old Brunswick Command Zone Arc that was given to me, and it fit my hand and fingers perfectly.  The ball is beat up pretty good, but i have managed to shoot every high game and series with that ball, rather than my other equipment.  I also bowl on wood lanes, and use modern stuff to score on there (urethane doesn't work, i have tried).  I dont get a big hook out of this, or big snap.. the line i play with it is about 10-7 and just gradually comes back.  Anybody know why i do better with a way older ball, then newer stuff?  I know it will be a hard question to answer, but try your best.  Thank you

FWIW -

Wood, with the exception of Guardian and other lane overlay films, is the softest and highest friction surface you'll ever bowl on.

Combine that with poorly maintained lanes and lane coatings you can have some interesting "oil patterns" develop on wood as well.

Using modern equipment on wood lanes that are high friction will really minimize the "big snap" everyone seems to expect to see.

Solid urethane has more friction in oil and less friction on the dry, thus making for a smooth reaction.

Reactive urethane creates less friction in oil and more friction on the dry, hence the big motion out of modern equipment as it hooks and rolls off the oil pattern.
