Blue Ringer vs. Melee?
« on: August 28, 2014, 06:45:28 PM »
How does the Blue Ringer compare to the original Melee?

I've never really liked the look of the reaction from the Melee that I've seen in videos or in person as it seems to really lope downlane.
I'm looking for a smoother reaction but not as strong as the Melee Cross unless you guys would suggest a Cross with polish.

Wait a minute! are you saying that the Beatdown and a Blue Ringer are similar?? I have the Beatdown and I keep it at 4K Ab and its still very aggressive I also have the red Melee which

was a HUGE over/under ball until I put it at 4K Ab and then it was awesome and the two cannot compare at least for me...

Now I want a solid ball thats a little stronger then my Melee and I was really looking at the Blue Ringer to fill that void...I thought I would give it a try OOB and then make a adjustment after that but looking at the Blue Ringers specs I dont see it all that strong, of course, I have not thrown it yet so maybe its another ball thats waaaaay strong OOB.
Now throwing pretty much all flavors...

I have both the Meanstreak Beatdown and Blue Ringer.  The Meanstreak Beatdown is drilled pin in ring, CG in grip center, surface is at 500/2000 Abralon.  The Blue Ringer is drilled pin in ring, CG in grip center with a Motion hole, and the surface is at 3000/4000 Abralon.  The Blue Ringer is the perfect step down from the Meanstreak Beatdown.  I get length with a nice controlled backend with continuation through the pins.

I have a Beatdown and a Blue Ringer on the same layout and so far they are extremely close. The Ringer Solid is much more ball then expected.

Is my experience. The Ringer Solid is a lot more ball then expected.

I'm like a few of the other posters here. I have both a Beatdown (actually, three: pin-up, pin-down, aggressive; pin-strong) and a Ringer Solid (pin-down, aggressive). Depending on which Beatdown to be compared, I stand as close as three boards right on the approach when using my Ringer Solid, but no more than five boards right.

The Melee has never been a ball that I've considered, nor have I really considered the Melee Cross, which supposedly replaced the Beatdown. I suppose that's also why I bought three Beatdowns just for that very reason.

Here's a recent video of me using both a Beatdown and Ringer Solid . . .

Great information provided here regarding the comparison.  About 3 board less, for the Ringer Solid exactly what I am expecting.

And a drilling close to what I expect to use from Direct Drill!

Thanks,

With an equal layout the Blue Ringer is a few feet earlier and several boards stronger than a Melee.  The Ringer Solid Is a few boards weaker than a Beatdown and just a little longer.   The two would be very close if you add a little surface to the Blue Ringer and drill it a little stronger.

Thanks Chris what I thought!  The Beatdown was a little much for me!

SO, I think drill the same and I'll have what I need.

Smooth strong and a little less.

Thanks....everyone for great comparisons!

I have both the Melee and Blue Ringer. I have tried the Melee at a few different surfaces and even added an extra hole and it was still not a good ball in oil. The melee was a good ball, no doubt, but if you are looking for a ball to give a better look in oil than the Blue Ringer out weighs the Melee. I love the Blue Ringer, it is the ball I wanted the Melee to be.

This is exactly what I was seeing from the videos and some reviews. Thanks for the input

Had 735 with blue ringer first night out. That's on older wood lanes. Normally one or three 700's bowled there in a season.
