Title: Bruiser vs Slay/R......
Post by: Monster Stitch on July 07, 2004, 08:29:47 AM: I know both of these balls have the same coverstock and cores but
would you say they are a good compliment for each other. I know the Bruiser
is very versatle surface wise. Say i drill the Bruiser 4 x 4 and drill the
Slay/R 5 x 5. Would that work?

Post by: RSalas on July 08, 2004, 12:32:20 AM: I had a Bruiser and a SlayR drilled identically (pin below ring finger, CG stacked below), and there was about three to four boards of difference between the two. I found that both balls like to be played more direct, but while the Bruiser could bump the wall, the SlayR needed some dry down the lane.

I guess you are. Drilling and hand are very related to ball action/reaction.

I have my SlayR drilled 5x5, pin centered directly under the middle of the bridge. I use it in light to medium-light oil. On dry, IF there's is enough head oil, it will hook a LOT. I have used it once on medium-heavy due to a surprise oiling. Unless I hit solid in the pocket, there was not a lot of pin action, but the ball did hook. I played like 10 out to 8 and alos up 8/9 to the pocket. (Just didn't have any stronger balls with me.)

Post by: Monster Stitch on July 08, 2004, 05:59:36 PM: Thanks guys for the help. I finally experimented with a 15lb ball and i have been really liking it. With all the new technology these days, i see now why the top pros have dropped down. My carry has increased a whole lot and it has given me a feel of more comfort and better ball and hand control.
With that, I am looking to setting up a new arsenal.

I think i have my eyes set on the Bruiser for sure as a good Bench Mark Ball and maybe the Slay/R when the Bruiser starts to roll up too early.

Drilled Pin above the bridge; with the factory finish, I can play a lot of different shots with small hand/speed adjustments. I play in quite a few houses and the ball seems to have a shot everywhere I go. Now me being able to repeat the shot...

I recommend the Bruiser without hesitation. It's very versatile.

Post by: Photoc on July 10, 2004, 10:09:30 PM: The Bruiser for me needs just a little bit of carrydown, otherwise it hits those fresh backends and goes flying left! But by middle of second game on a 4 man team league, I can switch to that and swing out to 12, it holds for about a good 4-5 feet then makes a nice break to the pocket.
