What lane condition is the Smoking Inferno for?

It says heavy oil.. but that is not the truth...

So tell me what lane conditions you use it for?

I'd like to see where Brunswick says it's for heavy oil. Please point us to that quote.

AFAIK, it's designed for medium-light (their term: "medium-dry") oil, because for most people with average/normal drillings and the box surface, it clears the heads with very little oil. it has the potential to make a big turn at the backend, depending on your revs, ball speed, and drilling.

With surface changes to rougher than box surface, and with stronger drillings and with stronger releases, it can handle up to medium heavy oil, which is what I believe what Brunswick actually says: "medium-dry to medium-oily conditions". That's a direct quote.

When it was first released, brunswicks ball comparison chart put the Smoking Inferno right above the Ultimte Inferno, and it listed it as heavy oil..

I am not making this up.

I am just wondering if it will complement my OI. My OI is drilled almost stacked leverage, and is very strong and rolls early.

I am hoping my SI will go longer in broken down med/light patterns than my OI...

Yeah, the SI is NOT for heavy oil or oily for that matter. mine is drilled for medium oil and it works best on Medium and medium oil.  get the best out of it on the medium conditions though. it is definitely intended for when the lanes have already gotten some action on them, not for the fresh lanes.

Its hard to play with an inferno and not get burned. Last time I threw my inferno, the opposing bowler definitely got burned.

Drill it 3 3/8 x 3 3/8 and put the surface at 500 grit and then you can use it on heavy oil. Smokin is meant for what it says (which is in the desrciption on the link) medium dry-medium oil. By tweaking the surface and drilling it more aggressively, it can be used on a heavier pattern. If you want a true heavy oil ball get either:
Ultimate Inferno
Scorching Inferno (new)
Strike Zone

Not for heavy by any means. It will however, depending on drilling cover most conditions aside from carrydown...Goes long with a hard turn on the backend...Its a good ball and hits very hard because of the movement on the backend. Give it a shot...It should give you a much different look to compliment your OI.

Cranking,

   That link you attached is not the official Brunswick website and some of the data placed on there is not directly off our spec sheet. They did use most of our wording in their "Product Information" section, and in that area it describes the ball as being for medium-dry to medium-oil. It also states great for all but the driest and oilest of conditions. The section at the top with the ball specifications has the line "Lane Conditions: Heavy Oil". That is added to that websites desription by them.
  Also, you said it is higher on the chart than the Ultimate. Up and down on the chart is for the amount of angularity the ball has, and yes,  the Smokin' is listed as more angular than the Ultimate, which it is. The left to right listing on the chart describes the "hook" potential, and the Ultimate is further to the right than the Smokin' which means more hookability.

  When all is said and done, the Smokin' is great when used on the right conditions, but that is strickly up to each individual bowlers perception of how they want the ball to work based on their individual style.
