Need drilling help from Brunswick/ DV8 gurus
« on: June 30, 2012, 09:58:02 AM »
Greetings,
I have a Hell Raiser Revenge with a 3-4 pin drilled with the Big Crank drilling (60x5 pin under ring X 70) which is a great ball that I play up the oil line with on the lanes.

I just picked up a Nexxus (15lb 4 oz, 2-3 pin, and 2.4 top weight) that I would like to drill so I could play 3-4 more boards left into the oil. I am looking for some drilling help from you guys and gals.

My stats are in my profile. Speed dominant (15 at pins), not much hand (285 cats), high track, PAP 5 1/2 and up 1/2. Old guy with old school habits (suitcase release). Thank you in advance.

I am another old guy with similar rev rate, maybe a touch less speed.  I have a Nexxus pin above ring finger stacked.  Nexxus gets down the lane pretty well for an aggressive shell, but you still want it to store energy and get length if you move inside.  In any event the Revenge and Nexxus are similar enough that I would use the pin up drilling to get a different look.

Drilling depends on where you want to see the hook?  More in the backend or midlane?  I agree with avabob with the pin up idea so then you have 2 balls that compliment each other.  Drill somewhere around 60 x 5 x 40 should give you more in the backend.

The angles choosen for the hellraiser are on the weaker side. Please lower the total sum to about 90 and tat should help a good deal.

Consider mb @ 55, val @ 35, with a 3½ inch pin.

Thanks makpa,(55 x 3 1/2 x 35).

I had a Taboo with the pin at 5 inches from my PAP (above ring finger) and the Mas Bias on my VAL. Is that considered a real strong drill?

Do you have the Dual angles for the Taboo??

You have to look at your tilt vs rev vs speed.

Can you give me the tilt and rotation for the ball?

makpa has a good suggestion, and I would think that a 60x4x40 dual angle might be a good layout for you as well.  That drilling should clear the heads, give traction in the heavier oil, and give you a stronger backend movement than the HR Revenge. Good luck with the Nexxus F(P+R).

Makpa,
I do not know what the dual angles was on the Taboo. My driller put the pin above the ring finger and placed the Mas Bias on my val to help the ball get into a roll sooner and have good continuation through the pin deck.

I have zero tilt and come out of the ball between 45-70 degrees. CATS has me at 285 revs and 15mph at the pins so I usually am looking for help in the back of the lanes. I do OK on a house shot where I can belly the ball out to the dry to get it to finish well at the back end.

Thank you for all the information gentlemen. I will try the 55 x 3 1/2 x 35. I want to make the Nexxus the strongest and I can change the surfaces of the two balls on my spinner.

Big question -- with 0 tilt are you a full roller (most 0 tilt bowlers are)?  If so you need a special layout that will reverse the flare so the ball doesn't flare into the finger and/or thumb holes.  A regular layout for a semi roller is going to thump holes.  --  JohnP

True, but that PAP doesn't match up well with 0 tilt.  Not impossible, but unlikely.  So which is right?  --  JohnP

I am not a full roller.

I was told by two different drillers that I don't have any tilt.

I usually can not put the pin lower than the finger holes because I clip the finger holes (and sometimes the thumb) with the ball track.

I think that because the Revenge has such a strong core I was able to put the pin below the ring finger. The top bow tie on the Revenge is at 11 o'clock next to my middle finger.
