I need a pearl benchmark ball
« on: August 05, 2009, 10:22:05 AM »
and was considering the python with maybe a pin axis layout.here are my reasons for considering this ball and layout.
I loved the cover on the TF
my favorite ball to date is my Intense with a 41/2 stacked layout and high polish cover.
I'm a high rev player with 16-18 speed average and looking for a ball that is clean in the heads but will still have good control early and not produce the big backend.
I tried this layout on a hammer pain and loved the roll but it was to strong to play up the boards like I want.
I own a tropical storm that is drilled 5x5 pin up and I hate it,ready to pitch it in a dumpster.the thing snaps harder the a rubber super ball and is basically useless.
Brunswick covers always work for me,I hate storm!
I've seriously thought urethane and own a few but I'm not 100% sold on any of the new urethanes.
any thoughts or suggestions would help me a bunch.
Thanks!

Python might be a little weak and too snappy.  Might be a better idea to go with a Wild Ride.

This is a job for Ultra Zone and I have seen them for 69.00 shipped recently, pin down and mb 45 degrees and you will be set.

I'm worried those two would be to strong, the opject would be to play up the boards and keep it fairly tight on a med/lite flat pattern.

if your wanting to play up the boards, I would suggest a Python with a pin below fingers, or a Ultra Zone with pin above fingers....Possibly a Smash Zone will work also...can get those for dirt cheap...pin up on one of those also.

Have you considered the Rattler?  For me, it's a "happy medium" between the Wild Ride and Python.  Nice and clean in front, and picks up a roll down lane without going nuts at the break.

i would go with the avelanche solid, you can use the pin in axis layout for this.

Pin axis would make any ball too condition specific imo.

I've seen the Python and even the Wild Thing (6" pin-pap drilling) look very good playing down the boards.

Another alternative is the Smash Zone which can be picked up NIB CHEAP right now!

Also have an PBA inferno that is nice that is not listed, same as original inferno.

You can't go wrong with either the Python or the Wild Ride, the Wild Ride is one of the best bench mark balls I've thrown to date. I drilled my python to eventually replace the Wild Ride and it's been just as dependable and predictable. They're both great bench mark balls.

drill an avalanche solid with the same layout as your intense and will be fine.

Smash Zone or Python would be alright. Both are good smooth pearls, but would be much more off of the breakpoint than what you are looking for.  I would definitely go with the Wild Ride though.  That ball clears the fronts well and doesn't overhit off the spot.  It is very controlled.  I loved my Twisted Fury Pearl, definitely a breakout ball for me, and the Wild Ride is 10 times better than it.  Threw a pin axis Wild Ride that a friend brought back from off tour.  Wasn't crazy about it.  Hooked very early and did absolutely nothing on the back.  Reacted like urethane.  Tons of weak tens

i am not sure exactly why you would want to play up the boards with a high rev rate. you are limiting your greatest advantage which is to find fresh midlane oil away from other players. to answer your question though i would go with an avalanche slide. it has a nice smooth reaction but does hit. if it squirts in the oil hit it with a 4000 abralon pad to help it get a little more predictable. i know you said you hate storm but the natural is awesome and you wouldnt have to kill the weightblock. you would get better carry. good luck!
