Smokin and OI for a 1-2 punch on med oil
« on: March 05, 2006, 03:10:34 PM »
Hi folks,

Im a med-low rev stroker with a ball speed of 15-16 mph.
Ive been using a Smokin drilled lable 2L for med-light to med-hvy conditions and really enjoy the ball.  I was looking for another ball that was similar but would have a smoother reaction and handle carrydown better.  I was able to  pick up a used OI that is drilled almost the same except the pin is lower, just under and to the right of the ring finger.

The proshop recommended I sand the ball to get a smoother and earlier rolling arc, but with my slower ball speed, there isnt much movement or pop on the back end with this ball compared to the SI.

What I would like to know is if I polish back up the OI will it still handle carry down better than the Smokin because of the difference in the ball and the pin position?

Or is loss of back end just the price I have to pay by sanding the ball to get a smoother continuous arc to deal with carry down and heavier patterns?

Would using the rough buff on it give me the best of both worlds, saving me a little more energy for the back ends, while still allowing the ball to turn the corner well even with carrydown?

Thanks for your replies.
