Activator
« on: February 27, 2006, 07:33:47 AM »
The first generation came out and had a moderate snap, but its true strength was in its great, controllable, yet powerful midlane read.  They then came out with the + to offer more backend, while still maintaining hook and roll in oil.  These seemed to have a similar hook potential in oil, with the + reacting harder to the dry.  The third generation, the advance, I'm a little shakey on.  They say, a harder breaking reaction, which it does, but as to the hook in oil, as compared to the + and origional, I don't really know.  Does anyone know, especially a brunswick tech, how these covers compare with the same grit, assuming similar core #'s.

The Advance, in theory, should be longer, yet stronger overall and snappier as compared to Activator+. The closest test would be to directly compare a Smokin', Intense, and Blazing inferno and see the difference. The Smokin' is supposed to be the strongest of the three, all of which have similar (though not identical) cores.

Considering that those are my three main balls, I can defianatly say that each successor goes farther and hooks harder and sharper at the break point. All three are AMAZING balls and I wouldn't trade them for anything. The Activator progression was consistant and each offered more length and more snap than its predisessors.

There is always a problem with the phrase, overall hook.  Saying that the ball goes longer and hooks harder could be a reflection on a ball reacting to dry backends more, or not burning up as much.  Essentially, the smokin', with this explanation could be for the least oil, as it does not burn up in the heads and midlane.  Can someone comment with respect to the ball on a certain lane condition, ie: mid lane read, transition, etc.
My question may also be changed to get the same idea across.  Say we have: Ball A, Absolute inferno, 220 grit with rough buff, ultra low rg core, Activator + coverstock.
Ball B, Inferno X, 220 grit with rough buff, ultra low rg core, Activator Advance coverstock.
   How will the reactions differ?
