Drilling for a Sidewinder - Help please
« on: April 18, 2008, 01:06:40 AM »
Looking for a good drilling for a Sidewinder I just bought, here are the specs; 15.3 Lbs, 2.4 oz topweight, and 3-4" pin. Looks closer to 4. About me; a little above average speed, medium revs. My PAP is 4 3/4 up a 1/4. I know the balls characteristics are to be pretty even and kind of early rolling with great continuation. I do not want to make it something it is not supposed to be, so any suggestions are welcome.

Also what kind of luck have people had with it OOB surface on medium oils conditions? (AKA - house shot)

Thanks,
fabes

I've got mine drilled with a 5.5" pin above the fingerholes with the cg at 75° I don't find this layout to be very early at all.

My Sidewinder hooks  quite a bit on med-heavy patterns (on a par with my black widow for total hook). It's got good easy length, and is quite angular, although the angularity is smoothed by the particle in the coverstock as well as the partial solid so it's not jerky at the breakpoint.
I'm by no means a power player, but if you have a little less hand than me, you should be able to use this ball on mediums OOB, but be prepared for it to hook a bunch and move yourself deeper on the medium patterns

I am a power player. I have mine drilled at 5 3/4 pin and at 35 degree layout. Pin is down below my middle finger. As Anglo said, this ball hooks more than you think. I absolutely love mine as the hit and carry are great. I would sufggest these drillings for you. Going off your profile. Going strighter with it use a 5" pin around 70 deegrees. If you want to swing it some and bring it back; go with a 4 1/2" pin and 45 degrees. JMO.

I have mine Rico and it is the most versatile ball in my bag.  It blends out white/black house patterns as well as gives good control on sport patterns.  I've tried the ball at OOB, 2000, 4000, and 4000+ Bean's Polish, all with success.  I think it is Brunswick's most under appreciated ball in their current lineup.
