To bowl or not to bowl.
« on: March 09, 2005, 04:42:18 AM »
After totally blowing the tourney on Sunday, after not even breaking 150 for the first three game, after coming nowhere close to the form I once had, I have to ask myself; WHY BOTHER?

I am 110% frustrated with myself and do not know where to turn.  I harken back to the days where I actually ENJOYED practicing, bowling on league nights, and even entering a scratch tourney or 2 where I made it past the first 2 cuts.  For the life of me I can't seem to find my "A" game.

My one last hope and possible saving grace is that one of the PBA Regional members, who will be bowling here on the island in April, has offered me his services to help me with my game.

I don't want to give up bowling, but I'm not having fun anymore.

Help me, Brunswick Nation....

I am determined to do better but nothing seems to work.  I am not bragging on my old skills, (as evident of my recent scores/woes), but I used to roll the ball so effortlessly.  I had always been the stroker/tweener and never tried to deviate from that.  But, I have adjusted my game for the advancements in lane oils and ball design.  Suffice to say the shot I rolled my 300 games on back in the 90s is not the same shot today.

I do have league tomorrow night so maybe that will make me feel better.

Ever consider booking a lesson with a coach?  A second set of eyes could help correct some problems and make bowling fun again.

Just a thought

As I mentioned, there is a PBA Regional Pro coming here for a tournament and I've already made contact w/ him about giving me some instruction.  Plus I'm going to talk to the manager at the base bowling center to see if he would be interested in getting Ron Clifton to hold a session or 2.

So stop bowling. Seriously, if you get bored, you've just burnt yourself out. Take a break for a week or two, maybe 3. Or however long it takes to get that feeling back. If you have league, only bowl league. (basically just as little as possible) It helps me.

Doing that now.  I haven't touched my gear since the tourney on Sunday and IO'm only bowling on Thursday night, (league night).  It seems my game gets worse when I come back from a long stint away though.  When I came back from deployment, it felt like I had to learn all over again.

I think you are right.  The league I bowl on is a fun league; just to get together with a lot of military folk in the area.  But it seems to be a strain just to go do that now.  I've been bowling like pewp and that attitude I do carry to league nights at times.  I'm not out to throw a 300 game, just to maintain the 215 ave. I started the league with, and I can't even break a duece.  I will go ahead and complete this league, learn whatever I can from the feedback I get from my coaching session and take the summer off.
