Craigslist score: NIB Cranberry Power Groove Urethane Pearl
« on: September 04, 2014, 10:00:31 PM »
Kidlost2000 eat your heart out!  ;D

I picked up this NIB ball today for $40.

I've wanted to try the PBA plastic ball layout for a long time and this ball with it's short pin and pancake core is a perfect candidate.

Right now I have a Norm Duke Signature Hammer for playing the twig, light oil, and spares. This ball should give Duke a rest.

On another note, I love the phasing on it. Can't wait to see it drilled!

How far is the pin from your pap?

Surface may want to stay rougher like 360/800 ot 500/800. The ball doesn't like oil. You have to be very consistent on speed and release.

I'm not sure.  PAP is 4 3/8 away and 1/16 up.

Is the pin on your center grip line?

If so its going to be about 4.5" from your pap. Surface is everything.

Yup.  CG is kicked out to about 5 o'clock.  I think I'll try 500/2000 and see how it rolls first, then work my way down.  I only have about 225 rpm and throw about 13mph so it doesn't take much with the right hand adjustments to make even the weakest reactive ball hook the entire lane if I bounce it off the gutter.  This ball is an exception, so I will take down the surface.

Reactive is not urethane. Urethane, especially with a pancake core, will not over react.

Notice even BrunsNick with his rev rate gets minimum hook from the ball.

I've seen Nick bowl in person so it's a good point.  I'll try 500/800 first because it's easier to go up then go back down!  Will report back.

I've thrown plenty of urethane old and new in my day but always with a core.  This is a new experience for me.

It is very sensitive to oil is my experience.

Hate to revive a dead thread, but I do want to report back on this ball.  I hit it with 320 grit wet/dry sandpaper and a 1000 abralon pad and that did the trick.  The ball is perfect down the outside and is no longer too sensitive to oil or speed.  I have played several sets with it where I ended moving two board the entire night.  Carry is good and at best I'm leaving 7s and 10s.

Most of the houses around here don't oil much outside the first arrow so I like this ball down the twig, but I have ventured as far in as the 2nd arrow on light oil with it.

This is not the ball motion that people like to see.  No big hook.  But it is a very useful ball to have in the bag when lanes are challenging.  When all the bowlers are moving left I can move right and have the outside all day. That means quietly and undramatically taking their money.

A very unique piece indeed.  I'm not sure if anything out there compares... maybe taking a plastic ball and sanding it could get the same result.  Check out kidlost's video on his T-Zone earlier in this thread.
