Brunswick Melee Reaction Video
« on: November 18, 2013, 06:32:16 AM »
Brunswick Melee reaction video, also compared to the Meanstreak Beatdown at 2:15.

Out of the box, we found the Melee to be extremely smooth compared to anything else in the current Brunswick line up. check it out.

As I've used mine enough to burn some of the factory polish off, I'm still amazed that it's clean, clean, clean through the heads with great finish. First ball out of the bag!

Thanks for the video, Jason.

I'm loving the look of the Melee.  Would it be possible to compare it my beloved Versa Max?

Its funny alot of people are saying this ball has a pretty strong backend move, similar to the versa maxx. But a few are talking about how super smooth it it, this review and video showed that almost too smooth reaction. BJI experienced the same reaction as Jason. I honestly feel that every ball made from a factory is different, sometimes drastically from the next. Then you figure in different bowling styles and centers, and you have np idea what you may get out of the ball.

Thos video reaction did not leave me interested, but other videos show a much different reaction that I would be more interested in since I have a few pieces that roll super smooth like this. If I were to buy I want that beloved versa maxc reaction everyone always talks about.

This post is in no way dogging the video, I really enjoy your guys videos. I am just kinda confused on how smooth this reaction was compared to 90% of others.

keep the videos coming!!

LaneHammer20,

When I feed the Melee further outside early it makes a faster and stronger move than the Versa Max.  If I ride the edge of the oil line, or get inside the oil line, it seems pretty close to the Versa.  Hope that makes sense.

we were a little surprised by the smoothness as well. our test pattern is a typical house shot, but the centre has added a little volume over the past few months, but its not like they are super tight, and there is a decent back end reaction.

the ringer platinum and mastermind were thrown on the same lane, so you can see that its not the pattern thats made it smooth.

maybe some other videos are shot on a burnt out pair? I'm not sure.

one thing we discussed, is that we think this ball can benefit from a surface change. even at the WSOB it looked like most of the guys that were throwing it, had some of the polish off of it.

The differences in reaction are more than likely due to layout.  I have noticed a large difference in reaction from my pin up layout to a pin down ball that I drilled over the weekend.  The pin down ball was 5 and 3 weaker, much smoother, and started several feet later when compared to the pin up ball.  The pin to axis distances were both 5 inches and the pin down ball had a low hole.  It is an amazing difference and adds another dimension of versatility to this ball.

I drilled my Melee 70/4.5/30. It's clean through the fronts and has a strong move at the break. I like it, but the factory surface needs to be scuffed. I visited with Parker Bohn last week, the first thing he told me was "Give it some surface, you'll love the ball." I'll report back after I touch the surface. Oh I'm bowling on a 23.75mL, 43ft house shot on wood lanes  Someone should do a few videos showing a pin up vs. pin down drilling on a few balls.

I agree totally on the surface adjustments.  We do our main videos on the balls at factory finish for obvious reasons.  But I think this is one ball that we will look at doing a surface adjustment test.  It really shows the versatility of the ball .  I have taken the Melee down to as low as 1000 and this ball comes alive.  It seems that OOB the ball really needs to see friction.  Once the ball is surfaced up a bit the lane seems to open right up, and even at 1000 the Melee was still super clean through the fronts.  This ball is gonna be a monster on any sport pattern.

we will be releasing the video of the Melee surface comparison next week. as jason said, we shot the main video out of the box, hit it with a 4000, 2000, 1000 pad.

stay tuned.
