Radical Problems! (Please Help)
« on: December 27, 2006, 01:31:55 PM »
Hi all, this question is mainly for Brunswick Staffers and Product Specialists (Nick, Ric, etc.) but anyone's thoughts and experiences are welcome.

One of my Radicals is simply not reacting the way i want it to or expected it to. On any shot (wet, dry, long, short, upside down, etc.!), the ball will hook as soon as it touches dry and cover maybe 5 boards. The reaction looks as if it was rolling out! I have tried everything to get a decent reaction: sanding, polishing, bathing (just incase) and the same thing happens. (It is in OOB right now)

My other Radical i love almost as much as i do my girl. It is sanded to 2000 Abralon with the PIN below the ring, CG kicked out, and a weight hole on my axis. It rolls smoothly and crushes the pocket on medium length shots with lower volume and shorter shots with high volume.

My Specs:
Rev Rate:350+/-
Normal Speed:17-18
PAP: 4 3/4 right, 0 up/down
Axis Rotation Angle: LOW (30 degrees at most)

Drilled Ball Specs of the problematic Radical:
Pin:3 3/8"
Pin to Pap: 4" (just above and right of ring finger)
CG to Pap: 4 1/2"
TW (Originally): Not sure

I think that the poor ball reaction that i'm getting is due to my low axis rotation angle. I am having similar difficulties in my other balls that are drilled label or close to it (like this one)...so, i think it could be the drilling is a bad matchup with my axis rotation angle.

Since I love the smooth reaction of my pin down Radical so much I have thought of 2 possible drillings that would help smooth the reaction:

#1) Pin 6" from PAP (up or down) with CG at a low PAP-PIN-CG angle

or

#2) RICO (Would this work with my low axis rotation angle???)

I want this ball to be in between my other Radical and my Smokin' (drilled with Pin 2" above bridge with CG at 20*) and to be very smooth off the dry.

Any suggestions???

I'm sorry for the length but I wanted to get all of the info. out there.

Jared

I am by no means a pro or specialist but from your info we are about the same(speed, revs, etc). The way I got my radical drill is Pin abovering, Cg approx 2" off grip center. For me this ball jump super hard most of the time i cant throw it and if i do, i have to throw it hard.Idk how you get out of the ball but i come up the back of the ball which I think causes it to jump as hard as it does.
This ball is OOB cover.

Idk what to tell you i cant get this ball smooth off the dry it jumps like a mother.

Just a suggestion.

I'd say go 5 1/2 from axis above the fingers, with an x hole on your axis or down your VAL. I think going 6" would be pushing it, even with your revs.

thanks Nick

A couple more questions though. I was thinking of sanding the ball to 4000 after i redrill it. What are your thoughts on that? And, do you think that my low axis tilt has been causing some of the poor reactions in my label drilled equip? I'm planning to not own a label ball again for that suspicion and because of thier inability to be controlled on sport shots.

Any thoughts?

BTW, would that drilling fit between the balls in my original post???
