Brunswick VS Motiv
« on: February 07, 2014, 07:31:35 PM »
Hey Guys,

I want to try a new manufacture out. I'm stuck between Motiv and Brunswick. I seen some great releases by both Brunswick and Motiv. i need a ball that carries phenomenally and that is very consistent. What are the differences between Brunswick and Motiv.

Thanks

Odd question.
Human nature being what it is, the Brunswick people will say Brunswick and the Motiv people will say Motiv.

We all look for a ball that will carry well on the conditions on which we bowl. Many times I think it is more the right surface and the right drilling than the "right" brand.

I favor Brunswick/DV8/Radical because I've used Brunswick for years with success. I also like how with three companies under one umbrella when they all have new releases i can find something to fit a need a bit easier choosing from the three brands.

I've tried several Motiv balls and only loved one. (GT-1) That being said they do make good equipment,  I've just not been crazy about some of the ones I've tried. Some of it has to do with their finishes. Polished seems to be a bit gritty.

We sell both out of our shop, while Motiv makes a nice product, I prefer the Brunswick line, and have for 20+ years, I see a very nice range of balls in the line-up,
great looks and long time coverstock life, I still break out a 15 year old plus,
PowerBlitz pearl, that with normal maintenance still rolls like it was fresh out of the box.

So my vote goes towards Brunswick

My brother had been a Storm guy for the better part of a decade. He recently wanted to try new companies, and bought 5 Motive balls the only one he liked was the Primal Rage. He then tried Brunswick/Radical/DV8, and hasn't stopped yet. The Brunswick "umbrella" has a lot to offer. I personally have always been a Bruns guy, but just purchased a Reax V2. The carry is exceptional. I hope to be the proud owner of a Grease Monkey soon. The Melee is smooth, almost too smooth, and the Mastermind is so very strong.  Any of the "three" have great offers available.

As someone who is impartial, what I've seen is this. Motiv works really well for the guys who whack on it at the bottom like it. They roll great, and have a good mix of symmetrical and asymmetric equipment, with different covers.

I've never owned one. Would drill a Primal Rage if given the chance.

Haven't drilled a Brunswick ball since back in the Ultimate Inferno days, and the only ball I really liked was my Power Groove. In recent years, I've seen their ball reactions change to be much more versatile. DV8 looks awesome, and Radical has some great pieces. I wouldn't have said this years ago, but imo, Big B gets the nod.

The Primal Rage is the only good ball Motiv has ever put out.

Completely disagree!!! I'm a Utah junkie for sure!!! I also have a Mastermind and 3 different Reaxs that I like.

However, no ball I own compares to my Tribal!!! It is my most versatile house shot ball hands down. The Primal Rage has the most backend I have ever seen. And the Cruel Intent is the best blend of power and control I have for an asymmetrical.

Motiv definitely has my interest!! I'm seriously considering the Sigma Sting as well.

I like the Mastermind but nothing else in Big Bs line even interests me.

But you know what they say about opinions!!

the differences are Motiv is a young company and like most young companies that aren't backed by a major brand, they roll early and heavy. Motiv is trying to hit the next big HP release to compete with Major Brand HP releases. So far, I've been impressed with the Sigma Tour, Raptor P7, and Primal Rage. Other than that, it's been early and heavy roll which keeps your angles closer to the headpin, no free wheel unless you have a lot of hand. I personally have not liked the fact that a lot of their releases have been pearl. For me, their Pearl stuff is more catered to sport patterns,.... I see very few sport patterns so I don't really throw them.

Brunswick has made big strides to become more versatile to carry better as you move in deeper. Their HP balls have been true monsters. Their newer midprice balls are 10X better than years past which is something they neglected for a long time and they aren't just step downs from the HP but versatile as all get out. Also, they've been cheaper than most so we tend to sell way more brunswick than Motiv.

We have sold a lot of Rage's and Tribals and I think this Revolt will be a decent offering. Brunswick just has more out there.

All companies have hits and misses.  Currently Storm and Brunswick have such a wide range of balls, that anyone should be able to find something that matches their game.  Motiv appears to make some good stuff, but I think they probably don't have quite as much versatility in their lineup.  Primal Rage appears to be a ball that has fairly broad appeal.  Other stuff may not match up with as broad a range of styles.

If you look at what the pros are doing to their games currently, you see most cutting down their axis rotation considerably to try and hook the ball less while maintaining a high rev rate.  This rolly look use to be the forte of Brunswick equipment during the zone and Inferno era.  Some of their new stuff has those characteristics, and some doesn't.

Conversely Storm got its claim to fame with skid snap stuff that matched up up to high rev, high axis rotation styles.  They now have lots of stuff out that is very rolly.

haven't thrown Motiv, but Primal Rage looks to be very conducive to end over end roll
