Title: building line up on a budget
Post by: bowlingnut76 on February 03, 2015, 03:22:40 PM
ok been while since had thrown Brunswick....but I like what I see lately that Brunswick is putting out......so money tight but I think can get three balls to make a line up....so been putting in the research this what I think could make a good line up....was thinking start with BRUTE or MELE CROSS as heavy to medium oil, then was thinking medium to light oil was MELE JAB, then light to dry oil GOLD RHINO or LT48....well what I think so if you have other suggestions let me hear it...o by the way throwing speed 15,medium revs, down and in type player...thanks for the help

If this is a simple THS lineup, and you want to stick w/the Brunswick family.......I'd go something like Guru (for some heavier oil), a Jab for length and back end (middle of the road patterns) and maybe a shiny Strike King with a weak layout (or maybe even the LT-48 shiny) for dry lanes.  I must say the SK is a bit more than really anyone expected I think.

My understanding is the new Gold Rhino Pro is NOT a dry lane ball by any means.

You have options........check and see if your local REPUTABLE pro-shop has any clearance items.

One thing you might be able to do, is take a mid price ball and hit it w/some surface to give it a bit more oil handling capability.  So you could go two mediums (one dull and one shiny) then a light oil ball.  If you're on a THS and have friction you can make that work.  If you are getting out on some volume and length......you may have to invest.

Just my opinions.

I'm sure you are, but scour close outs.  Guru is out of budget, but Reax Version 2 can still be found and under $100. Strike King can be found at $69 and was also a good suggestion. Torrid Affair can be found real cheap now, and I liked mine a lot.  Fortera Exile can still be tracked down for under 100.

Diligence.

Easy budget would be Mastermind Intellect, Ringer Solid, and a Strike King. Or a LT48,  Ringer Solid, and Strike King.

I'd go with a Blue Ringer, a strongly drilled Platinum Ringer and a strike king

Theres masterminds going on sale now for about $99 if thats in your budget. Id say mastermind, melee jab, and LT48/strike king or if no mastermind.. go melee cross, jab, and lt48/strike king unless youre open to dv8 too

Cross, Exile, LT48

Those 3 made me a lot of money this past year. Didn't miss a PBA check the last half of the year throwing primarily those 3.

Gold is awesome as well, could fit between Exile and LT and have that cool factor. Jab could replace Exile, I think it's a touch cleaner and longer. Just depends on your ball speed and how much dry you see.

My 2 cents.  Melee Cross, Melee Jab, Strike King.

You could easily do the Blue Ringer instead of the Cross, if you choose.  The Jab carries EVERYTHING for me, so it's a favorite.  On the dry the Strike King has been very good for playing straighter up the boards.

the blue ringer with surface could very easily be a heavy oil ball. I love mine, add some polish and you will get some length out of it. Very versatile ball. That ball can be anything from light to medium to the real juicy stuff!

If folks had to choose between the Cross and the Jab which would you pick? Love my Melee because it doesn't have too much on the backend, but curious about the others.

I absolutely hated the Melee.....so anything with the word melee in the name is a pile of crap...even though i had a fluke 299 with it......lol

dougb,

The Cross is 3-4 boards stronger than the original Melee for me, and the Jab is the cleanest and strongest late on the lane. I can play similar lines to the pocket, just that the Cross reads earlier while the Jab saves everything for the last 15 feet or so.

Cross, Exile, LT48

^^This! Cross is strong solid symmetrical (medium to heavy), Exile is skid flip asymm (medium), and LT48 (medium to dry) is clean yet has very smooth motion and extremely versatile. If a customer came to me and wanted an arsenal on a budget, this would be it in a heartbeat.

If DV8 is an option (made by Brunswick), Buddie's Pro Shop has good prices on the Ruckus and Endless Nightmare; one of them could serve as the oil ball with the right surface.

Otherwise, I'd go with the Mastermind as others have mentioned.

Thanks Lane sounds like the Cross would be a better bet for me.

+1
If you are looking THS and sticking with only Brunswick. On a budget the blue ringer is a good ball and the strike king is awesome.

If you are open to Radical the Grease Monkey POW is decent on med-heavy shots, and it wont break the bank either. Someone mentioned the Reax V2 as a heavy ball, I would suggest to knock off the factory surface if you go Reax V2.

a budget brunswick arsenal i would go with the blue ringer as the benchmark then brute or lt48 below and melee cross above unless you can find  one of the masterminds on closeout

Mastermind at 99 is a must. The cover takes to adjustment and can be used for heavy to medium if you need to. Exile in middle. I did not like the lt 48 so I would look at something else in the light oil slot.
