I know a pretty good ammount about what certain layouts will do, yet virtually nothing about laying out a ball to be drilled.  It seems to me as though the 50 degree thing is arbitrary.  Do you alter the degrees when putting the cg in the stacked position?  When you want a greater pin above mid or  lesser pin above mid what do you do?  The other thing, how do you know that the line that you use to find your midline will be 4 1/4"?

Great Video!! I understand everything but as BallsDeep asked, how do you reverse your measurements to find your center of span? What I understand is that you do this after you draw your vertical axis line but here how did you find it?

I have to say brunsnick, you have to be one of the most knowledgeable and helpful people on here. You are constantly updating your site with videos and always drop tricks of the trade out there.  Thanks for your videos and help!  I'm still at a loss when it comes to drilling.  But thats why I tip my driller so much

After drawing the PAP notch, you need to approximate the pin height (or where your center of grip will be) by the desired reaction you want. Sometimes, you are forced to go with a pin lower in the grip due to the Pin-CG distance. Using the Pro-Sect, you can get an idea of the COG and go from there. This isn't an exact science, there is a degree of guess work.

Yes I edited the video to change the way I measure back from my PAP to the Center of Grip. I made a mistake drawing the horizontal first, then vertical, which is a no-no.

I was limited with this layout because of the 1" pin, so I wanted to go pin under with the CG shifted in case I wanted an x-hole later. If I was dead set on not using an xhole, I would have gone with a 90 degree stack.

You can use a compass to layout a ball as well, lots of different methods can yield the same result.

Hey Nick,

  I SURE hope you didn't use that Ebonite brand polish in the video to make that Mammoth shine. It won't work properly if that is the case. Matter of fact, there might even be a chemical reaction that will inherently alter your skin in such a way that you may never grip a bowling ball properly again. Please take caution when using inappropriate procedures when making your Brunswick balls glisten. At least humor me by placing a bottle of Factory Finish High Gloss or Rough Buff in the video shot.

My boss likes the PowerHouse stuff, but for your info, I used Brunswick High Gloss Polish for the Mammoth.

Nice job!  Customers are impressed by all those lines.  If you are interested in a quicker method, grab yourself an AMF Armadillo.  On a ball that is already drilled and has the PAP marked, place the Armadillo on top lining up the PAP and place the track in between the track tracers lines.  Now simply trace the grip onto the Armadillo.  Now you can take that template a place it on the ball you wish to drill.  The Armadillo has circular lines indicating the distance away from the PAP the same way using a compass does.  With these lines you can easily place the pin, cg, or mass bias any distance away from the PAP you want.  You just shift the armadillo around and you can quickly weigh different options without drawing a single line.  This isn't the way Mo shows you to use the Armadillo in his video, but it saves time and is very effective.  Don't get me wrong, Nick's way is the right way.  It looks much more professional.  This way works for me.
