Let me correct what I said, why would someone use a high load particle when , they have a look like this guy did with the Wizard and Rampage. I agree particle pieces can and will tame down jumpy backends, but IMO the video showed that but at the expense of other balls shining. I think it would have been better to see a shot right behind the Wizard to show the taming of the backends.

Lots of reasons.  Maybe someone doesn't feel comfortable playing that far right?  Or they prefer to play further in where the chance of break down near the high friction area is a lot less severe (very common)?  Again, knowing how shots break down in our area and a good percentage of tournaments, I would choose the Mammoth reaction.  Why?  Because I can stay left longer because you know the transition is going to be bad after a game.  The breakdown out will be so fast and severe that you'll be moving every 3-4 frames.

quote:

But was this the best line with both the Mammoth and Goliath on this shot?? I think not. Had he not been playing so deep of a line, I think they would have shined a little brighter.

It obviously wasn't for the Goliath but the Mammoth was very close.  Only probably at most 2 right would have been flush.  But the read and control it offered was what really shined.

quote:
Again, my poor editing skills, I did not mean that particle balls do not provide good entry angle. I was reffering to this shot and the amount of oil that was there. For the line that this guy was playing with both the particle pieces they could not provide enough entry angle into the pocket to create what I see as a high percentage strike ball.

And what do you see as a high percentage strike ball?  The Mammoth obviously had it in the video.  It showed how deeply one could play compared to the other BVP balls, still get the reaction downlane and still carry.  Although entry angle is helpful when creating a higher carry percentage, how quickly the ball slows down once it responds to friction is also very important.  Too sharp and you get in ring 10/4 pin hell.  Too slow and you plague 10.

quote:
Like I stated, I think that this will be a great ball, but for most, I don't think that the video will do the ball justice, but rather an injustice. Why do a highlight vid with a ball when all the shots come up light??? That doesn't make sense to me. A true ball comparision to me is what a ball will do when it is thrown on the same line as another. Now, had the video shown the Ambush and Wizard thrown as deep as the particle pieces and the particle pieces as far outside as the others, it would have been a great comparision vid. To compare, you must see them in the same situations.

IMHO, I believe that they wanted to show how far left they could get with the Mammoth compared to everything else.  Furthermore, by showing the balls on the same line, most bowlers won't get an idea of how much more the ball hooks, only that it hooks more.  If you go flush with the Rampage, then hit the 2-4 with the Mammoth, you know it hooks more but how much? 4-2 left?  6-3?  Show a ball cross 3rd arrow and another at 1st arrow on the same condition is way more beneficial.

This is my thing, why make a vid that is supposed to be higlighting a ball show it barely kicking out the 7 and coming up light and deflecting to the 10 pin every shot??? Yes we can speculate that if he moved in 2 boards that the shot would be flush, but thats speculation. No other highlight vid that Big B has put out shows the balls barely making it to the hole. I'll put it this way, if Ferrari were to make a commercial where it beats out a Corvette by .00001 sec only because the driver made poor shift changes, do you think the consumer would say oooh I want a Ferrari?? No, they would say I'll save the extra $$$ and get the Vette, it does the same thing.

Like I said, I am NOT saying that this ball will not be a good release, HOWEVER, I am saying that from the highlight video, I do think that this ball will go to the wayside fairly quickly because people are going to see this vid and ball comparison chart and be like oh, I can get deep just like him and the ball will be a HOOK monster and it won't all the time and they will be mad @ it just like the Goliath. Now I know that it is not Brunswicks job to show customer's where to play with certain balls but you have to realize that is what the avg customer does. And I believe that avg bowler's make up a majority of ball sales for most companies. So what would a flat shot show?? A true comparison. When marketing, you can't think that some info is common knowledge(particle balls are good for blending shots, taming backends, or heavy oil) If I saw this promo vid and had a poor foundation on bowling conditions and coverstocks, I would say well when my Mammoth isn't finshing enough for me in oil, go to the Wizard Now we know that isn't right but not everyone does.

Ebonite put a video out for the Angular one, I believe, and it showed the same ball thrown the same line with different surfaces, now yes the lower grit ball severely outhooked the OOB ball and went wayyyy brooklyn whereas the OOB went flush, but that is how you can see what a coverstock does, or in my opinion, justly compare.

How would a flat shot show a true comparasion? When the "avg bowler", as you described, does not bowl on flat shots? Seems that you are backpedaling faster than Deion Sanders....
