intense inferno advice
« on: May 17, 2005, 10:22:17 AM »
i've got an intense inferno that i bought a month or two ago and i've got about 20 games on it or so.  i've got it drilled with the finger holes about 1 inch away from the pin with a balance hole in the side. i've been less than impressed with its preformance on oily lanes which is what i bought it for (i didnt do to much research shut up) i was thinking of sanding it down to about 600 or so but i dont want to redrill it since its been redrilled like 3 times and thats my last resort right now any thoughts?

I'd try taking it to 600 first, and if that's still not enough, I'd go down to 400.

The cover on the Intense is very versatile.  My Intense is scuffed to 1200, and it handles oil *much* better than it did in box finish.

do you get a lot of revs on ur inferno cuz i'm only 16 and i dont really i'm more of a down and in kinda person around 2nd arrow usually but i'm trying to get more revs, kinda, i want to know if at 1200 it reacts good on heavy oil cuz when i go to youth tournaments they put like 4 layers of oil down and i usually bowl the 1st shift so i get a ton of oil out there

No, I'm an old man compared to you.

I took mine down to 1200 to try to get it to handle longer patterns better.  It is in no way, shape, or form a heavy oil ball right now, but my guess is that if I were to go to 600 with it, that I would be able to use it on fresh conditions.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Dusty. I've tAken mine up and down the grit line and it's very versatile and strong. Try 1200-1500 sanded, left dull. If that doesn't work, try 600-800 grit. Its cover is very flexible.

I can't believe you said you bought it for oil. It is a resin pearl and it has a high RG. It can't handle medium to medium-heavy oil but like all pearls, you need to hit some to a fair amount of dry before it's going to hook. The Ultimate Inferno is for oil; the next in line is the Absolute Inferno, so far as oil handling (I think). I bought my Intense for medium-light and box surface was too strong for that.

If the pro shop is just going to sand it to a flat grit, be it 600 or 1500 grit, I'd guess $10 at the tops, $5 sounds more like it. If it takes 10 minutes, that's a lot.

Brunswick Nemesis
Brunswick Blazing Inferno
Storm Vertigo
Storm Fear Factor
Ebonite Maxim

Is that from your vast YEARS of bowling knowledge?

ON EDIT:

I had one, very strong ball for THS.  I could really make this thing turn the corner.  I didn't keep it too long.  It just wasn't the reaction I was looking for, with my revs it was very hard to control.  So, instead of redrilling it and killing any resale value, I just sold it.

Agroves:  Good commentary of sparebowlers very finite knowledge of bowling.

I have the intense and it is very good second ball out of the bag.  On a fresh shot with any volume and length of oil it won't read the lane soon enough. Short patterns and thin oil and this ball shines.  Every ball has it place.  Korkey if you wanted a ball for a wide range of conditions your should try the original or absolute Inferno.  Don't give up on the intense, there are certain conditions that you will score very well with it.
