USBC Masters Pro-Am.....
« on: October 28, 2006, 02:27:42 PM »
Okay. I can't keep this to myself any longer.

I got up at 9:30 and left to the tournament at 10AM, got there at 11AM. I just wanted to get there early so I made sure to have a spot to bowl at 3PM. While waiting to bowl I was watching other bowlers and pros. Then I ran across Jeff Carter from this forum. I had to introduce myself to him, great guy, rolls the ball awesome!! A few seconds later I see Chris Johnson whos right next door to Jeff. I also introduced myself to him also, he recognized me when I walked up.

I talked with alot of pros today, had a great time.

Now on to my bowling performance.

Today I started with my Vapor Zone, too jumpy off the break. SO I switched to my Rampage, never used anything else all night. I started off with a 216. Rough start with a 5 bagger finish. Game 2, i go 260. Now the real attention grabber of the day. Game 3 I start with the front 9. 1st ball in the 10th pocket 7 pin! and im a righty. I finish out with a 279 game. So I go 216, 260, 279 for a 755 scratch series. After handicap I have 821!

I had 15-20 pros watching me the last 2 games very closely. Rick Steelsmith was the last bowler for the night, he came over and said whos the 260 game bowler??? I said "that would be me sir." He says "You deserve to bowl in my spot where it says "Pro" on the right side anchor." So I bowled in that spot the last game. Felt weird but cool at the same time!

I went there to impress and thats what I did. I even got some stickers from the Vise Grip Rep today because I was using the Vise Grip Vacu-Grip Inserts, he even helped to put it on my left shoulder on my PBA shirt from last year. He gave me a 2nd one for my next PBA shirt when I buy it on Nov. 25th.

Great and fun day!

That's a great experience and great bowling! I don't think tooting one's own horn is bragging, it's just being proud of an accomplishment and sharing it with others.

Mike,

You have a right to brag (a little)

Great bowling...You roll the ball well.

Memorable day for you, you should be proud.

Duke, Personally, I dont feel like my approach is as great as it could be. Theres still room for improvement. I roll the ball with more then enough hand but I need to work on my target accuracy yet. I have improved on my balance at the line since the last NE BR Meet we had. I was complimented on that tonight. I even had Billy Oatman coming over to watch me roll shots. He was 2 pairs left of me!! Said he wanted to see for his own eyes what people were talking about, guess the word spread out after my 2nd game only to back it up with what I did.

I am confidant that I placed in the top 5, top 10 are cashing. I heard 1st wins $1,000, gets a trophie, and a trip to the PBA Pro-Am Championship in Las vegas at the end of the year. If I happen to take 1st, I plan on taking that money and putting it into a couple PBA Regional events and entering as an Amature.

Billy Oatman gave me a few words of advice tonight. He said he noticed that my shoulders are open through my entire approach and never really square up at the line. And said that I could use a little more Knee bend at the line also. I will take his word for it and work on both items one at a time. Thats probably the 2 things that I am missing from my approach.

Thanks for the responses guys, I was starting to think, "Hmmm, they probably think im bragging when I am not" I quit bragging 2-3 years ago, i just let my bowling do all the bragging for me.

Unfortunately the shot was a 41 foot House shot. The big difference though is last year the lanes were wood, the house went to Synthetics over the summer. I shot 701 last year on the wood lanes with yes, a rampage. Last night a bigger series with yet again a Rampage....go figure.

I wish the shot was the Masters shot but oh well and the format was normal style bowling. The next Pro-Am I am doing will be 9-pin no tap and on the PBA shot of the week at Hawthorn Lanes in Vernon Hills, IL.

Thanks again to those who have responded.
