Rumor or Fact...
« on: May 18, 2005, 05:19:44 AM »
POST DELETED DUE TO ACUTE PANTIESINABUNCHISM.

...Original question stated in a more politically correct and non-panty-bunching manner....

I heard a rumor that Brunswick is going to outsource its bowling ball production outside of the US.  Possibly a country of Asian decent(sp).

I would like some feedback/input from the B staffer as to the validity of this rumor.

Thank you.

Even though I have never been a B fan, I hope the answer is no! Keep the production here and keep Americans working!

Since when was this forum so politically correct?

I didn't realize everyone was so e-uptight.

My apologies if I offended anyone of Asian ethnicity...

I'm certainly no expert, but I don't see any of the major ball companies moving the bulk of their manufacturing operations overseas.  The primary rationale for making such a decision would be to reduce costs for competitive reasons.  Unlike companies in other industries, I don't see that the bowling ball companies are really getting any pricing pressure from companies inside or outside the U.S.  IIRC, the only foreign ball company that has any appreciable presence in the U.S. is ABS, and even then, I think ABS balls have to be ordered directly from a specific importer.

There is a difference at the lower end of the market, though;  some plastic balls are already being made in Asia.  However, I believe the vast majority of these balls are manufactured under OEM arrangements;  I don't think the majors in the U.S. have a stake in the companies that make these balls.

BrunsRod, please restore your original post.  You brought up an interesting point, and I'd like to see a response from someone from Big B (or from any other company, for that matter).
